After being blatantly white-washed in the ODI leg of the tour, the Sri Lankan women will be looking to redeem themselves when they meet England in the T20I series beginning with the first match to be played at Colombo on 24th March. England Women had a terrific tour against India not long ago and will be looking to build on it. The shortest format of the game tends to throw up something interesting every now and then and we expect the same from the first match of the series.
Despite a poor loss, the hosts have decided to stay with almost the same combination as they did in the ODIs. Sri Lanka had a terrible World T20 campaign in the Caribbean Islands last year and the selectors' desire to provide youngsters with opportunities so as to build a strong team for the next World Cup has been clearly apparent after that.
Sri Lanka have decided to rest Prasadani Weerakkody and Prabodhani Udeshika along with young Dilhari Kavish and Sewwandi Tharika. Also, Madushika Meththananda has been although been retained but is unlikely to feature in the final eleven on Saturday.
Sri Lankan Women's record in limited overs Cricket against isn't full of glory, more so against England. Sri Lanka have played a total of five games against England and are yet to taste success. Considering the way things panned out for them in the ODI series, it's certainly a tough ask, but not impossible.
Anushka Sanjeewani, Chamari Atapattu, Umesha Thimashini, Hansima Karunaratne, Nilakshi de Silva, Oshadi Ranasinghe, Shashikala Siriwardene, Harshitha Madavi, Imalka Mendis, Inoshi Fernando, Achini Kulasuriya.
It's been a long time since English women are touring, but they won't really be missing home considering how they are spinning the string of wins. They had a highly successful tour of India and topped it off with a 3-0 win in the One Day Internationals against Sri Lanka.
Opening batsmen Amy Jones has had a huge role to play in their three wins in the series as she already has three half-centuries on this tour to her name. In the last match, she played a swashbuckling 76-run knock off just 58 deliveries as English women cruised to an eight-wicket win in the last ODI.
Alongside the batsmen, the bowlers have done their job brilliantly in the concluded series. Kate Cross, Anya Shrubsole, and Alex Hartley have all done well and will be tough to face for the hosts. Considering the way the recent matches have gone so far, the England are favorites, but Cricket is a funny game where anything can happen.
Amy Ellen Jones, Tammy Beaumont, Lauren Winfield, Heather Knight, Natalie Sciver, Danielle Wyatt, Anya Shrubsole, Sophia Dunkley Brown, Freya Davies, Laura Marsh, Linsey Smith.
England Women are placed at the second spot in the ICC Women's Championship whereas Sri Lanka are down at the floor of the table. The Lankans have won just 1 match out of the 15 played. Having said that, T20 is a different ball game altogether and the match can swing with just a few moments of brilliance. Having said that, England are a superior team in all departments and are favorites to win the first match of the series.
