Sri Lankan women were whitewashed by England in the ODI’s with absolute ease. There were very few occasions when the Sri Lankan women were even competitive and the result never really looked like in doubt. Now the England tour shifts to the shortest format of the game, T20 internationals, and it is here where we hope to see somewhat of a contest.
Sri Lanka may not have the players to be able to effective over the long format of the game but they definitely have a chance of pulling off an upset in T20 cricket. England, on the other hand, is going to be looking to end the tour unbeaten and show a streak of ruthlessness that has evaded them on previous occasions.
The Sri Lankan women are going to be depending upon their captain, Chamari Athapaththu for the bulk of the runs in the smallest format of the game. We cannot see anyone except Athapaththu and maybe Mendis as batters who can score runs with enough momentum to be able to blindside the English bowlers.
Both Athapaththu and Mendis have the skill to hit boundaries but seem to throw away their wickets after a start. In the case of T20 cricket, these starts can sometimes be enough to give the side a good start and lead it to a challenging total.
Players like Harshitha Madavi, Hasani Perera, and Shashikala Siriwardene are also dangerous batters in this format of the game and can score some quick runs. The fact of the matter is that the Sri Lankan batting is very fragile and cannot be relied upon.
There have been several occasions when the Sri Lankan women have got off to a good start to collapse in a heap. A lot of things will have to go right for the Sri Lankan women to set a challenging total to the English women or to chase down a big total.
The Sri Lankan bowling is not much better. None of the bowlers have been able to have an impact in the series so far and there is nothing to say that things will change in T20 cricket. The bowlers have lacked the wicket-taking ability and even discipline which is essential in T20 cricket.
Chamari Atapattu, Nilakshi de Silva, Inoshi Fernando, Hansima Karunaratne, Dilani Manodara, Harshitha Madavi, Imalka Mendis, Oshadi Ranasinghe, Inoka Ranaweera, Shashikala Siriwardene, Umesha Thimashini.
A whitewash of the Sri Lankan women in the ODI’s would have given the English women a lot of satisfaction but it was not really a huge surprise. The England women’s cricket team was expected to come in strong and run all over Sri Lanka in the tour. Anything but a whitewash would have been considered a failure.
Things are much the same for England when it comes to T20 cricket.
They are expected to win each and every match that they play against Sri Lanka in this format of the game as well. Heather Knight is going to be leading the side and she has some excellent players at her disposal.
Danielle Wyatt, Tammy Beaumont, Laura Marsh, and a number of other capable batters make the English side much superior to the Sri Lankan women. The England batters have not been troubled by the Sri Lankan bowlers thus far and this is not something that is likely to happen in the T20’s either.
The English batters need to be careful about not throwing away their wickets or succumb to dot ball pressure.
The English bowling has also been far better than what the Sri Lankans have at their disposal. Katherine Brunt has led the bowling attack with a lot of heart. She has been in the wickets and almost always ensured that the Sri Lankan batsmen do not threaten to come close to an upset.
Anya Shrubsole, Sophie Ecclestone, and Kate Cross are some of the other bowlers that we recommend looking out for.
There is no aspect of the game where England appears to be weaker than Sri Lanka. stranger things have happened in cricket than Sri Lankan defeating England but we don’t think there is any risk of that happening any time soon.
Heather Knight, Tammy Beaumont, Freya Davies, Sophia Dunkley Brown, Amy Ellen Jones, Laura Marsh, Natalie Sciver, Katherine Brunt, Linsey Smith, Lauren Winfield, Danielle Wyatt.

The 2nd T20 between Sri Lanka women and England women is going to be played at the Colts Cricket Club, Colombo. The weather forecast for the match is a bit mixed and there is a very real chance we are going to have some showers interrupting proceedings.
Hopefully, we are able to able to get a full match in.
The pitch is a bit slow but extremely flat. The spinners will get some assistance but it is the slowness of the wicket that we expect to be the biggest obstacle ahead of the players.
Backing England women to win may not have too much value in this contest but is the right thing to do. Look for in-play betting opportunities to get some better odds but backing England is the only way to go.
Back England women to win.
