Women's ODI World Cup Qualifiers are getting more and more exciting with every passing day and the recent upset by Thailand Women over Bangladesh Women is a huge testament to that. In the other group, Group A, things look a lot straightforward, but can get a lot more interesting in the days to come.
Up next in the group and the tournament, Sri Lanka Women are set to take on West Indies Women in a match that is perceived to be the direct shoot-out for the top spot on the ladder. We expect both sides to come out hard at each other and a mouth-watering contest is definitely on the cards for the fans. The match is to be played at the Harare Sports Club, Harare on 27th November 2021.
Sri Lanka Women got their campaign off to a happy start despite going through a Covid-19 scare as their most experienced player in Chamari Athapaththu scored a match-winning century to guide them to a much-needed 34-run win over Netherlands. After what would have been a few horrendous days for Sri Lanka, this win will certainly have a calming influence, on and off the field both.
As it currently stands, Sri Lanka Women are placed at the second spot on the points table with one win coupled with a net run rate of 0.779. A win here will almost ascertain their top of the group finish and the progression to the next round and that is exactly what they will be aiming for.
After being put in by Netherlands in their opening match, Sri Lanka Women racked up a total of tall order, riding on a blistering century by their skipper Athapaththu. Apart from her, they got decent contributions from almost everyone in the middle-order before finishing with a total of 278. In response, Netherlands managed to score a total of just 196 for 6 after they were set a revised total 231 to chase down in 43.4 overs due to rain.
All in all, Sri Lanka Women would be jubilant with a win in their upcoming contest, but they have a bigger mountain to climb in this upcoming match. They would need more contributions from their younger players and if that happens, they will certainly stand a decent chance to get past West Indies.

West Indies were favorites to top the group when the tournament started and they have certainly started like one. A well-rounded bowling performance coupled with a clinical batting run saw them post a landslide win over Ireland Women in what was the opening contest of the tournament for both these sides.
With that win, Ireland Women moved to the top spot on the points table and would want to maintain their supremacy by registering a win here in this upcoming contest as well. West Indies Women did reasonably well in the build-up to the tournament and should be brimming with confidence going into the next match.
Against Ireland Women, it were their bowlers who set up the match as Anisa Mohammad and Hayley Matthews combined to pick five wickets for just 60 runs before Deandra Dottin wreaked havoc with the bat. West Indies were so clinical in their win that they won the match with six wickets in hand and a total of 63 balls to spare.
All in all, West Indies Women are not only looking in fantastic form, but also have an immaculately balanced side with the presence of versatile all-rounders. The conditions here are pretty similar to what they see at home and that should play to their advantage. If West Indies Women do not do anything silly, they should cruise to a win in this upcoming contest.
