Shivamogga Lions has been the worst performing team in the KPL so far and has yet to win a match. They will have another chance against the Bijapur Bulls, a team that won two out of its three complete matches. The weather in Mysore has been quite unpredictable but recent matches have at least been being played out. Both the teams will be keen to complete this match and add to their points tally. The Lions have no chance of reaching the knockouts but will the players have a lot to play for individually, while the Bijapur Bulls have an excellent chance of cementing their place in the top-4.
A decent batting performance in the last match did not quite translate to a win for Shivamogga. Runs from Ullal, Joshi, and a cameo from Mithun propelled them to a score just above par for the ground.
There was some good intent shown by the batsmen and the opening batsmen got off to a very good start. Unfortunately, some of the senior batsmen like Liyan Khan, and Jonathan were not able to capitalize on the start.
The team would have still backed itself to defend this target on a pitch that has not been the easiest to score runs on. Also, the presence Abhimanyu Mithun, a fast bowler who was in the Indian team not so long back, would have given them hope as well.
Mithun ended up bowling well and finished with figures of 24 for 2 but the other bowlers were not able to contribute. Only Somanna bowled well alongside Mithun and in the end that was not enough for the Shivamogga Lions to get their first win of the tournament.
Going up against the Bijapur Bulls, the Shivamogga Lions will be aware of some excellent batsmen on the other side. Their bowlers will have to come up with a better performance while the batsmen would be happy to repeat what they achieved in the last match.
Nihal Ullal, BR Sharath, Rohit Kumar, Anirudha Joshi, Prithvi Varadarajan, Prithviraj Shekawat, Adhoksh Hegde, Syed Khaja Moinuddin, Aditya Somanna, Abhilash Shetty, S Harish Kumar.
The Bijapur Bulls have made it a bit of a habit to win close matches, with both of their wins coming in the last over. The team was one of the favored ones before the tournament began and they have started to live up to that expectation.
Runs from players like Bharath Chipli, K Bharath, Bhavane, and useful contributions down the order have meant that the team is not short of runs.
Skipper Chipli and K Bharath are going to be the two players that the team will be looking at for some runs in this game. They are among the more experienced players and have been in good form. The threat of Abhimanyu Mithun and Somanna is not to be taken lightly so expect the Bulls batsmen to play out these players without taking too many risks.
The batting for the Bijapur Bulls is strong but the team also has a pretty decent bowling lineup.
KC Cariappa caught the attention of fans around the country by winning a huge IPL contract and did pretty well in the tournament as well. His return in the last match he played was three wickets in four overs while giving away just eleven runs.
Alongside Cariappa, Appanna, and Farooqi have been doing quite well also.
The Bijapur Bulls will be very confident going into this contest of being able to inflict further damage on the Shivamogga Lions.
Bharat Chipli, Shishir Bhavane, Gneshwar Naveen, Mir Kaunan Abbas, KN Bharath, Suneel Raju, KL Shrijith, KP Appanna, KC Cariappa, Bhavesh Gulecha, Suraj Kamath.
The team winning the toss is likely to field first
The weather forecast in Mysuru is not too good. Thunderstorms and intermittent rain are expected for the entire day. The players will be hoping to get some respite in the middle of the rain, enough for them to be able to get a game in.
The pitch has been slow and difficult for batting. Not much would have changed in the pitch. It would have in fact gotten a little slower.
We are backing the Bijapur Bulls to win this one and keep the Shivamogga Lions winless.
