Tuesday's match in Caribbean Premier League between Jamaica Tallawahs and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots showcased something which is really seen in T20 Cricket. A total of 241 runs was chased down with considerable ease, with seven balls to spare. Jamaica Tallawahs were at the receiving end of the result as the team effort of St Kitts and Nevis Patriots trumped Chris Gayle's spectacular century. The Patriots will be looking to make most of the momentum gained from their win over the Tallawahs when they take on Barbados Tridents. The Tridents are coming off a humiliating loss at the hands of Guyana Amazon Warriors wherein they suffered a colossal batting collapse. Considering that the Tridents have played just one game in the tournament so far, there's not a lot of compare with the sides as far as the form is concerned and we expect a nail-biting contest in this upcoming fixture.
After two heart-wrenching defeats in the tournament, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots finally emerged on top as they thumped Jamaica Tallawahs in what happened to be a rollicking run-fest at Warner Park, Basseterre. Such was the rarity of their win that it was only a second-highest successful run chase in all T20s played so far. With this win, they have finally sneaked into the top-four sides of the competition and are currently placed at the third spot with one win and two losses to their name.
It was a perfect start from St Kitts and Nevis Patriots with Carlos Brathwaite bowling brilliantly in the first few overs. With the introduction of Usama Mir to the attack, the shackles were broken as Christopher Henry Gayle and Chadwick Walton smashed the bowlers to all parts of the park. They eventually ended up scoring 242 runs in total, which is the second-highest total of T20s in all time.
While their bowling didn't do much, their batsmen did exceedingly well to chase the target down. It was the opening partnership of DC Thomas and Ewin Lewis that set the tone for the chase. They combined together to add 85 runs for the first wicket in just 5.3 overs. Laurie Evans and DC Thomas then scored at a brisk pace before Evans was dismissed for a personal score of 41. Fabian Allen played a key role as he stayed till the end and took the chase to the closure with 15-ball 37. While their batting has done particularly well up until now, their bowling has not been as good. If their bowlers can pull up their socks in the upcoming fixtures, the Patriots can be a force to deal with.
DC Thomas, Evin Lewis, Laurie Evans, Jason Mohammed, Shamarh Brooks, Carlos Brathwaite, F Allen, Usama Mir, Alzarri Joseph, RR Emrit, Dominic Drakes.
Barbados Tridents had a delayed start in the tournament as they played their first match of the tournament, against Guyana Amazon Warrior, just a couple of days ago. The late start, however, didn't help them as they succumbed to a massive loss to Guyana Amazon Warriors.
In their previous match, both their batting as well as the bowling failed to match up the standards of the competition. Bowling first on a surface conducive to bowling, their bowlers started off well but failed to capitalize on their position as they allowed Nicholas Pooran and Sherfane Rutherford to run away with the game. At one moment, the Tridents were looking all set to restrict Tallawahs to a reasonably low score, but poor bowling at the death cost them at least 20 runs and consequently the match.
While the chase was always going to be easy, their batsmen perished in the quest to get too many runs too quickly. The departure of Alex Hales on the first delivery of the second innings didn't help their cause either. Ashley Nurse scored a 25-ball 40 towards the end of the innings, but no effort from anyone else rendered the Tridents 47 runs short of the Warriors' total.
Leniko Boucher, AD Hales, J Charles, Jonathan Carter, Jason Holder, Jean-Paul Duminy, Ashley Nurse, Sandeep Lamichhane, Josh Lalor, Roshon Primus, Hayden Walsh.

With both the sides still uncertain of a slot in the next round in the tournament, they both will be desperate to register a win here. St Kitts and Nevis Patriots are although coming off a big win, lack of quality bowling performances in the tournament would be a big cause of concern for them. The Tridents looked a little rusty in their first match, but they certainly have the team and talent to crush any team in the competition. While the comparison on the basis of form doesn't tell much about the teams, largely due to small sample size, the teams of two sides on paper gives a fair bit of idea. The Tridents have a better team on paper with experience available through the order. With a better bowling attack and an experienced batting unit, the Tridents are better placed to emerge on top in the upcoming fixture.
