With most of the games going right down to the wire, the Caribbean Premier League is progressing in fantastic fashion. Well! not so much for Guyana Amazon Warriors and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.
The two teams have not had a good tournament so far and are struggling to keep themselves in the race for the semi-final spot. The upcoming match in the competition, which is to be played between the two sides mentioned above, will play a pivotal role in determining which of these teams get to the top-four. The match is to be played at Queen's Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad, on 30th August 2020.
For one of the most consistent sides of the tournament in finishing in the top half of the table, staying at the bottom would be tough to deal with. St Kitts and Nevis Patriots are struggling to fight, let alone win, and are consequently placed at the bottom of the table. In a total of five matches played, the Patriots have won only once, and are languishing at the bottom of the table with two points and a dismal net run-rate of -0.818.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots' most recent loss came at the hands of St Lucia Zouks. Batting first on a difficult surface, the Patriots batsmen never looked in control after a dreadful start. Chris Lynn and Nick Kelly departed in the first over of the match, falling prey to Nabi's tactics. Denesh Ramdin and Evin Lewis followed them soon thereafter as Patriots found themselves tottering at 11 for 4 in 3 overs. Had it not been for a brief fight by their lower order, the Patriots would have bundled out for a lot less. They eventually ended up with 110 runs on the board and Ben Dunk top-scored for them with 33.
Despite a difficult batting wicket, defending such a low total was next to impossible and the first over by Sohail Tanvir, in which he conceded 20, only made things difficult. Imran Khan and Rayad Emrit bowled well in the middle part of the innings, but the total was just too low to defend. Khan returned with the figures of 3 for 23 in 4 overs.
On paper, the Patriots have a potent batting unit. With the likes of Lewis and Lynn at the top, no score is out of reach for the Patriots. They showed a glimpse of that when Evin Lewis smashed a brilliant fifty a couple of matches ago. With no one else firing, there has been excess pressure on Lewis to score, and that hasn't helped Patriot cause.
It is almost a do-or-die situation for the Patriots and they'd need to bring out their 'A-game' sooner rather than later. They have a brilliant opportunity to find back some form as they face a team that has not been in good form either. A win here could turn the tables for the Patriots and only time will tell their fate in the tournament going forward.
Denesh Ramdin, Joshua De Silva, Imran Khan, Evin Lewis, Ben Dunk, Kieran Powell, S Tanvir, Ish Sodhi, RR Emrit, Alzarri Joseph, Jon-Russ Jaggesar.
When the tournament started, Guyana Amazon Warriors was one of the favorites to lift the title. It didn't stay like that for long. After a win in their third match of the tournament, they've on a steep slide. So far, Guyana Amazon Warriors has played six matches and have registered only a couple of wins. While they are still not out of contention to qualify for the next round, another loss here will certainly put them in a spot of bother.
The reason for the Warriors' downfall in the competition has been pretty apparent. In its last three matches, Guyana has been unable to cross a total of 120, which speaks volumes about the colossal failure of batting. In the earlier matches, it was Shimron Hetmyer who was guiding them through to good positions, but now that Hetmyer is struggling, Guyana Amazon Warriors' future in the tournament looks grim.
The only silver lining in the Warriors' campaign so far has been its bowling. Despite being restricted to a modest total by Jamaica Tallawahs in one of the earlier games, the way Warriors' bowlers fought and defended the total was commendable. Imran Tahir, Chris Green, Keemo Paul, and Naveen Ul Haq have all been fantastic with the ball and would like to continue to be so.
Guyana Amazon Warriors' on-paper strength is second to none. Warriors have the likes of Ross Taylor, Shimron Hetmyer, Brandon King, Nicholas Pooran, and Sherfane Rutherford at their disposal, but all of those have collectively underperformed in this competition. There have been some moments of brilliance, but those have been far and few.
Overall, Guyana Amazon Warriors are afloat in the tournament only because of the fighting bowling attack that they have. For them to not only win the upcoming contest but also to stay in the hunt, they would need their batsmen to show a similar hunger for runs. If they can do that, Guyana Amazon Warriors will certainly be able to turn things around.
Nicholas Pooran, Ross Taylor, Shimron Hetmyer, Brandon King, Keemo Paul, Christopher Green, Imran Tahir, Naveen-ul-Haq, Ashmead Nedd, Romario Shepherd, Kevin Sinclair.

Both sides have been struggling with similar sets of problems with misfiring batting being the most prominent of those. This could prove to be the match that turns of fortunes for one of the two teams in contention. Although there's a bit of gap between the two teams on the points table, there's nothing to separate them as far as the form of the two sides is concerned. On paper, however, Guyana Amazon Warriors is a better team having an excellent amalgamation of youth and experience. For that as well as the other reasons stated above, betting on a Warriors' win should be the way to go in the upcoming contest.
Our Favorite Bets
1st Innings Batting Team - Total Runs - Under 145.5, 1.7 @ 1xBet
It would be safe to say that the surface has not been optimal for batting. The total of 150 by any team was surpassed seven matches ago. With both sides having excellent spinners to bowl in the middle overs, scoring quickly will be difficult. In addition to that, both sides haven't really done well with the bat in their respective recent matches. Therefore, we don't think that the team batting first will surpass the total of 145.
When Will Next Wicket Fall - St Kitts and Nevis Patriots - Under 20.5, 1.83 @ 1xBet
It's been a sorry state of affairs for the Patriots. Their loss against Jamaica Tallawahs was their fifth loss of the season and their openers haven't contributed at all. More often than not, the Patriots have lost an early wicket, and there's no reason why that will change.
Best Bowler Team - Guyana Amazon Warriors - Imran Tahir, 2.75 @ 1xBet
While Warriors' batting has struggled in the competition, their bowling has actually kept them in the hunt. The likes of Imran Tahir and Chris Green have been impressive. Imran Tahir, in particular, has been difficult to pick for opponents batsmen. The nature of surface is such that the spinners are likely to thrive. Up until now, he is the Warriors' top bowler in the tournament and we expect him to be the most successful bowler from his team in the upcoming contest as well.
