SNP vs SLK Match Prediction - Aug 22, 2020

Despite being one of the least favored teams to win the competition, St Lucia Zouks find themselves in the top half of the table. No doubt that weather helped them to register their first win, but it was supplementary to the fantastic effort by their bowlers. With their win, Caribbean Premier League 2020 is once again left wide open.

Barring St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, all the teams now have at least a win to their name. These are still early days in the competition, but the Patriots will be desperate for a win as they'd not want to be left behind in a race that could get more and more difficult as we approach the business end of the tournament. They are set to face St Lucia Zouks in their next match, which could prove to be one of the most exciting matches of the competition. The match is to be played at Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Tarouba, Trinidad, on 22nd August 2020.

SNP vs SLK Team Previews

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

With a loss against Guyana Amazon Warriors, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots remain the only team to not have a win in its kitty. Consequently, they are languishing at the bottom of the table with a poor net run-rate of -0.826. While the two matches they have played so far have been tough, they haven't looked convincing at all, at least with the bat, and will need to step up their game to have a chance in the match to follow.

Batting first against the Warriors, they had the worst possible start as Imran Tahir teased Chris Lynn to play a false shot, which resulted in a wicket. Just when the Patriots were done with the consolidation and were looking to push the run-rate Chris Green had Evin Lewis stumped to reduce Patriots to 53 for 2. The loss of Evin Lewis, who was Patriots' only player who looked in control, triggered a collapse from which the Patriots failed to recover. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals thereafter and were restricted to a total of 127 runs.

While defending the total of 127 was never going to be easy, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots fought hard. Had it not been for the near-perfect innings from Shimron Hetmyer, the Patriots could have found success. Sheldon Cottrell and Jon Russ Jaggesar were brilliant up front as they didn't allow the Hetmyer and Brandon King to take off in the powerplay. Rayad Emrit, however, was too short against Lewis and was punished for 31 runs in his 3 overs. He did well to pick up three wickets in his next couple of overs, but those wickets proved to be too little too late for the Patriots.

All in all, the Patriots have struggled to play to their potential in the tournament so far. They have a decent batting line-up with the likes of Lynn, Lewis, and Ben Dunk, but have not found the rhythm yet. With bowling doing reasonably well, all they need is their batting to fire to its potential and if it happens, it could be hard to get past this Patriots unit.

St Lucia Kings

In the tournament so far, St Lucia Zouks have certainly managed to attract some eyeballs with the way they have performed so far. They were the least favorite team to win the tournament, but have surprised one and all with a terrific win over Barbados Tridents, the defending champions, albeit weather helped them a bit. As it stands, they are placed at the third spot on the ladder, with the Warriors and Knight Riders above them. They'll be looking to register yet another win here, with which they'll not only strengthen their position in the top half but will also have a chance to go at the top of the table.

For the Zouks, there couldn't have been a better way to shut their critics up than by defeating the defending champions. After being put into the field by Jason Holder, Daren Sammy brought all his experience to use as he marshaled the troops beautifully. They were put under the pump early in the innings as Johnson Charles started with a flurry of boundaries, but bounced back brilliantly as Tridents found difficult to score in the middle overs.

The Zouks' bowlers bowled in tight channels and tightened their hold once Kuggeleijn dismissed Charles. Known for his nagging accuracy, Mohammad Nabi returned with the miserly figures of 19 for 1 in 4 overs and his spell made pushed Tridents to take undue risks, which caused a mini-collapse. Roston Chase picked up a couple of wickets to kill the momentum that Tridents had built, before rain cut their innings short and the Zouks were set a target of 47 runs to win the match.

While a total of 47 runs was never a stiff target to chase down, it still needed a bit of effort, especially in damp conditions against the likes of Rashid Khan and Sandeep Lamichhane. Rashid Khan was taken care of brilliantly by his fellow countryman, Mohammad Nabi, who smashed 15 off just 6 deliveries. Nabi, with his all-round effort, was eventually awarded the man of the match title.

St Lucia Zouks looked like a complete team in the shortened match and the vulnerabilities that they displayed in their first match were arguably hidden by the rain. They have a batting lineup that can score quickly, but it remains to be seen if they'll be able to maintain the pace for twenty overs. On paper, their batting lineup appears to be a bit fragile and inexperienced, but if their bowlers continue to produce performances as they did in the last match, St Lucia Zouks could have a very good shot at finishing in the top half of the table.

SNP vs SLK Toss Prediction

As we saw in the Zouks' previous match, the Duckworth Lewis method tends to favor the team batting second. Although this is a day game and dew isn't going to be a factor, the possibility of rain will need to be considered while making a decision at the toss. While runs on the board are going to be important on a slow surface, we think that the threat of rain and DLS method coming into the picture is enough to temp captains to bowl first after winning the toss.

Pitch and Conditions

With rain having an influence on almost every day of the CPL so far, we have been lucky not to get a wash-out so far. There are chances of showers on Saturday as well, but we are likely to get a result in this encounter. As we expected, the surface is increasingly becoming difficult to bat on, and taking the pace of the ball is becoming more and more useful with every passing match. Despite the batsmen getting acquainted with the surface, scoring quickly has been difficult. We expect the scoring to be difficult in the upcoming match as well and the team batting first should feel comfortable after putting any score of more than 160 runs on the board.

SNP vs SLK Betting Tips

It is an important game for both sides. For one, it the matter of strengthening its position in the top half, and for the other, it is the matter of bouncing back into the contention. The two teams are coming off contrasting results in their respective matches and that could have a role to play in this upcoming match. Having said that, with a batting lineup that is full of explosive players and a decent bowling unit, the Patriots appear to be a better unit, at least on paper. Considering that as well as the fact that they'll be desperate to perform in the upcoming match, placing the bet on a Patriots' win should be the way to go in this upcoming CPL match.

Considering the way the two teams have performed in the series so far and their respective combinations on paper, the Patriots apparently have a better opening combination. They have had both Chris Lynn and Evin Lewis spend some time in the two matches gone so far. Furthermore, they strung together a reasonably good opening partnership in the previous match. On the other hand, the Zouks have struggled in the powerplay overs. Considering those factors, this appears to be a value bet with good returns on offer.

While both sides have power-hitters available at the top, the Patriots have the services of ones that have delivered well in history. Besides, the Patriots have aggressive players to come in at number three and number four, the players who can keep the scoreboard ticking. Therefore, the Patriots are better candidates to score more in the powerplay.

Evin Lewis and Chris Lynn are both known for their hard and long hits. They have both spent a reasonable amount of time in the middle and should be well acquainted with the surface. It is almost a certainty that they both will go for the maximum after getting in. This is a bit riskier bet, but the returns are worth going for.

Unlike the Patriots, the Zouks' batting lineup is a bit fragile and inexperienced. As far as experience is concerned, they depend heavily on the likes of Mohammad Nabi and Andre Fletcher. Besides, most of their batsmen have not yet spent ample time in the middle. Considering that, as well as the fact that Patriots have a decent bowling attack, we think that the best batsman of the day will come from the Patriots' camp.
