We have just passed the midway mark in The Hundred Men's Competition 2022 and things are beginning to get clearer as far as the qualification scenarios are concerned. With not many matches to go in the league stage, it would be now or never for some teams and those in good positions will be looking to push themselves higher up the ladder.
Southern Brave, the defending champions, have had a surprisingly poor tournament up until now and will be looking for a turnaround. Manchester Originals have had a similar kind of campaign up until now and they too will be looking to make a move on. Both these sides are now set to take on each other and unless weather plays spoilsport, at least one of these teams will get their second win on the board. Both the sides will be desperate to get two important points and are likely to come out all guns blazing.
This upcoming match between Southern Brave and Manchester Originals is to be played on the evening of 18th August 2022 at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton.
Southern Brave made a terrific start to their title defense but the brightness with which they started began to fade off after they posted their first win. They defeated Welsh Fire in their opening game by a massive margin of nine wickets but have since then failed to find success.
They were poor with the bat as well as with the ball against Birmingham Phoenix as they failed to chase down a tall total of 177. They were then defeated by London Spirit by nine runs in a match that looked in control for most part. Against Oval Invincibles, in what was their most recent outing, they again suffered a massive defeat as they failed to defend a rather modest total of 137.
While Southern Brave have a pretty good limited-overs side on-paper, they have badly missed their execution plans. James Vince, their best batsman, has been too inconsistent, having played just one innings of substance from four matches. Their other hard-hitters in Tim David, Quinton de Kock, and Marcus Stoinis are yet to exhibit their skills.
Their bowling, which was so good in the opening game, has struggled primarily due to the injuries. Chris Jordan and Tymal Mills are already out of the competition, leaving the Brave bowling attack in tatters. George Garten is already playing selected matches and it would be interesting to see if he takes the field in this match.
All in all, Southern Brave started off with an immaculately balanced side that has certainly lost some potency. While their bowling does look a little light on experience, their batting certainly has a lot of firepower, at least on paper. Even though their batsmen haven't fired up until now, it would be upto them to provide their bowlers with a cushion. They certainly have the capability and if they are able to play to their potential, Southern Brave shouldn't find it too difficult to find their mojo back.

Manchester Originals have had a campaign precisely opposite to that of Southern Brave. They started off with three back to back defeats but a win over Welsh Fire in their most-recent match should boost their confidence coming into this match. Another win here will push them back into the reckoning and that is exactly what they will be aiming for.
On the points table at the moment, Manchester Originals are placed at the fifth spot with a couple of points to their name. They have won one and lost three up until now. Even though their net run-rate of -0.364 is best amongst the sides with two or fewer points, they would want to improve that further given the role it can play if things get tight.
Manchester Originals may have lost most of their matches but they haven't really looked as out of form with the bat as some of the other sides have. The likes of Phil Salt and Jos Buttler have done reasonably well up until now and a lot will depend on them for the Originals to do well here in this match. With the ball, it's been Sean Abbott leading the way for them.
Now that the Originals are coming off a win in their last match, we are unlikely to tinker with their playing eleven, unless of course, it is forced by some injury. On paper, they certainly have an immaculately balanced side with firepower available right through. Andre Russell hasn't yet fired but the fans will be hoping to come good not just in this match but in the tournament going forward as well.
Overall, they have a terrific side with all bases covered and would want to get their execution right. A win in their previous match would certainly help them as well. If their stalwarts are able to come good in this upcoming contest, Southern Brave will have their work cut out.
Andre Russell, Mitchell Stanley, Tristan Stubbs, Jos Buttler, Laurie Evans, Matt Parkinson, Philip Salt, Paul Walter, Sean Abbott, Tom Hartley, Wayne Madsen.
We have seen the honors split evenly here between the team batting first and chasing in the two matches gone here so far. Even though these are short matches, the surface does slow down a bit as the ball gets older. Also, the scoreboard pressure plays it's part too. Having said that, setting a total generally is a lot more difficult in this format and teams generally prefer to field first. We don't expect anything different this time as well. Expect the captain winning the toss to field first.

We have seen only a couple of matches played here at Southampton thus far and none of those turned out to be high-scoring. Having said that, batting does seem to be getting easier here and we might well see the best version of the surface in this upcoming game. The venue features fairly sized boundaries and a sporting surface, making it suitable for the batsmen as well as the bowlers. With the ball likely to stop a bit once old, spinners will enjoy bowling here with the older ball. Keeping all that into consideration, the team batting first would want to put a total of at least 160 runs on the board.

Both these sides are currently languishing in the bottom half of the points table and will be desperate to get a win here to move up. Also, this match is a big opportunity for both to get some momentum going. While both sides have similar sets of numbers up until now, Manchester Originals have looked better of late. They also have a better-balanced unit with versatile all-rounders adding to the skills in both departments. Keeping that and the other factors stated above into consideration, a bet on Manchester Originals win should be the way to go here.
Jos Buttler has been in terrific form ever since the start of the cricking summer and more importantly he's just beginning to get started in The Hundred competition. He looked at his prime in the previous match and will be looking to make a mark in this match. Given the form he's in, a bet on Buttler to be the best batsman from the Manchester Originals camp seems a pretty lucrative option.
With a couple of Southern Brave's important bowlers getting injured, the onus to pick wickets, be it at the death or in the powerplay, will be with George Garten. He has bowled well up until now and should be brimming with confidence. He is certainly the best candidate for the top bowler bet from the Southern Brave camp.
We haven't seen a high-scoring match at this surface yet but we do have seen signs of the surface improving over the last two matches. Also, both these sides have fantastic batting units each. Considering that, we are certainly in for a cracker of a show with the bat. We are getting excellent odds on the match total odds and taking it's advantage, a bet on match total to exceed 269.5 runs seems to be a lucrative proposition.
