Somerset has got off to a slow start in the T20 Blast 2020 with just two wins out of its four completed matches. It is now going to be taking on Worcestershire, a side that is still looking for its first win. Four losses from four completed matches are not something that Worcestershire is going to be pleased about.
Which one of these teams is going to be able to turn things around in this match?
Somerset vs Worcestershire T20 Blast 2020 is going to be played at the Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton on the 11th of September 2020.
Babar Azam may not be ranked first on the T20 rankings anymore but there is no doubt about his class or ability. He has a strong bond with Somerset and was in fact the highest scorer for the entire T20 Blast in 2019 despite not playing plenty of matches.
His presence adds strength to an already strong batting lineup. James Hildreth, Tom Abell, Lewis Gregory, and Steve Davies should be able to get enough runs to win on most occasions.
The bowling has been a bit poor for Somerset so far. They have leaked too many runs and are finding it difficult to pick up wickets as well. Josh Davey, Max Waller, and Roelof van der Merwe form a decent but not overly threatening bowling core.
Lewis Gregory’s return is going to be helpful in this aspect of the game as well.
Babar Azam, Steven Davies, Will Smeed, TB Abell, EJ Byrom, Lewis Gregory, Tom Lammonby, Craig Overton, RE Van Der Merwe, ORT Sale, MTC Waller.
Worcestershire seems to be lost without the services of Moeen Ali this season and it appears as if their problems don’t really have an easy solution. Jake Libby is the only one with a fifty-plus score in the entire tournament so far for Worcestershire. Every single other batsman has struggled and in a tournament where the average runs go beyond the 170 mark, this is just not acceptable.
It is not as if there are no talented batsmen in the side. Hamish Rutherford, Riki Wessels, Brett d’Oliviera, and even Ross Whiteley have all had excellent innings in the T20 Blast in previous seasons. A couple of them need to hit form very soon, though.
A similar loss of form seems to have affected Patrick Brown as well. He is finding life much tougher in the T20 Blast now that the batsmen seem to expect what he is going to bowl.
Dillon Pennington and Jake Libby have had some good outings for Worcestershire but this is a bowling attack that is going to struggle to keep Somerset’s strong batting lineup under control.
Hamish Rutherford, Riki Wessels, Jake Libby, Brett D Oliveira, Ben Cox, Ross Whiteley, Ed Barnard, Adam Finch, Patrick Brown, Daryl Mitchell, Charlie Morris.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first. Defending a total can be very difficult at Taunton and so most teams avoid batting first.

A nice and sunny day with a few harmless clouds around has been forecast for match day. That means we should be able to enjoy a full 20 over a side contest between these two teams. A flat batting pitch and some very small straight boundaries make Taunton very difficult for the bowlers.
The team with the stronger batting lineup almost always wins. We think a score of around 180 can be considered par for the surface here.
Somerset has a massive advantage going into this match. They are playing at home and have a stronger batting lineup headlined by Babar Azam. They should be able to put away the rustiness they have shown in the T20 Blast so far and be able to come up with a commanding performance.
Bet on Somerset to win.
