Contrary to Somerset's start, the Bears were quick to get off the blocks, winning their opening game, but failed to sustain the momentum they had. After their first win, they lost two matches on the trot and are now placed at the fifth spot on the ladder.
While it was the Bears' batting that failed them against Northamptonshire, it were their bowlers who failed to make a mark against Gloucestershire. Bowling first in a rain-hit encountered that was shortened due to rain, Gloucestershire's bowlers failed not only to pick wickets but also to keep the scoring rate down. Gloucestershire batsmen were so severe that Will Rhodes had to use seven bowlers to bowl 12 overs on the day. However, barring Dan Mousley, who bowled just one over, none of the Bears' bowlers looked effective. Riding on Ian Cockbain's knock, Gloucestershire posted a mammoth total of 157, which was always going to be a tough one to chase down.
Birmingham Bears needed a flying start to stay in pursuit of a towering total and they got one. Ed Pollock and Adam Hose started off in a belligerent fashion as Bears raced to a total of 55 in four overs. However, once Hose got dismissed, the remaining batsmen failed to maintain the momentum. The required run-rate kept creeping up and Birmingham Bears kept losing wickets. There was no support whatsoever from the middle-order as most of their batsmen perished under the pressure of chasing a huge total. Birmingham Bears ended up with 100 runs coming in 11.1 overs at the expense of all their wickets.
All in all, Birmingham Bears appear to be following the same trajectory as the last year. They had a terrific start last year, winning three out of their first three, but failed to win any thereafter. They got off to a terrific start here as well and with two back to back losses already, the Bears would have to step up their game to keep the nightmares of last year's campaign from haunting them, unless of course, the memories have already started to haunt them.
Ed Pollock, Ian Bell, Adam Hose, Sam Hain, Will Rhodes, Michael Burgess, Tim Bresnan, Henry Brookes, Olly Stone, Jacob Lintott, Jeetan Patel.

Somerset got off to a poor start in the tournament, but they appear to be in a pretty solid position at the moment. On the other hand, Birmingham Bears had a terrific beginning, but with two consecutive losses, the Bears seem to be losing the plot. The return of Babar Azam is likely to immensely benefit Somerset, who are without Tom Banton. Also, they are coming off a pretty good win over Worcestershire Rapids and have the momentum. Considering that as well as the other reasons stated above, Somerset is our pick to emerge as winners in this upcoming match
