About the Match
After a sluggish start, Somerset have bounced back into the competition beautifully. They are finally among the top four in the points table with 12 points in as many games. They'll now host Glamorgan on 13th August 2017 at Taunton. Glamorgan has been equally impressive, if not more and they stand tall at the second position on the points table with 14 points in 12 games. A win for them will take them to the top of the table while a loss at par with Somerset. South Group is still pretty open as far as qualification scenarios are concerned and both teams would like to register a win here.
Somerset was tottering at the bottom of the table after the first few games, but have nicely picked up the momentum. Barring their last match and the beginning, they've been rock-solid and would like to take the momentum forward.
In their previous match, Somerset lost to Kent by 6-wickets. Batsmen failed to take on Adam Milne's pace as he picked a fifer in the last match. James Hildreth played well for his 36 and little contributions from Johann Myburgh, Steve Davies propelled the score to 149. While the score wasn't enough on paper, the bowlers ensured no easy runs for Kent.
Bowlers started off well, but Sam Billings and Joe Denly took the game away from them. Somerset have had an inspiring recovery in the competition and will be looking to bounce back again. They've been brilliant at home and will certainly be up for a fight against Glamorgan on Sunday.
Glamorgan has been on of the most consistent sides in the tournament and has racked up five wins with only three losses. Their recent-most match, against Hampshire, didn't have a result they wanted.
Batting first, they managed a total of just 118 on a surface known to be paradise for batting. Andrew Salter was their top scored who scored 37 off 27 balls. Colin Ingram and Jacques Rudolph did get the starts, but could not convert them into anything substantial. The batting duo has played well in the tournament and it was a rare failure for them.
A total of 118 is never enough in a T20 match and hence it proved. The match was over in just under 14 overs with eight wickets to spare for Hampshire. Overall, Glamorgan have done well in the competition so far but looked a little fatigued in the previous game. They have a strong team on paper and with Ingram and Rudolph in terrific touch, they cannot be taken lightly.
Both the teams are coming off a loss and desperate for a win. A win will not only strengthen their position on the points table but also improve the sentiments of the dressing room. Having a strong record at home this season, Somerset go in as favorites to win this one
