About the Match
South Africa clinched a 4-1 ODI series win against Pakistan and the two teams now face each other in a 2-match T20 series with first one to be played on 13th November. In the last match, South Africa defeated Pakistan by 117 runs and they will come out with all guns blazing here. It’s been a disappointing series for Pakistan as the batsmen failed to deliver in crucial situations. The upcoming shorter version of the game is an opportunity for Pakistan to redeem itself; and they will certainly put their best foot forward here. On the other hand, the Proteas are confident of putting up some splendid performances to emerge victorious.
In the previous match, it was AB de Villiers’ brilliant knock of 115 runs off 102 balls that built the foundation for their win. Plessis and AB de Villiers added 62 more runs on board and the latter played smart as he scripted another strong 83-run partnership with McLaren for the 6th wicket. After the superb performance by the batsmen, it was the turn of their bowlers to work their magic; and they did so triumphantly as they demolished the opponents; getting them all out for just 151 runs in the 36th over. While Philander picked up two crucial wickets early on and bowled economically, Parnell took 3 wickets and others like Duminy, McLaren and Tsotsobe gave good support to finish strong. The team has peaked at the right moment and though the T20 match is a different ball-game, the team is confident to put up a winning performance yet again.
The bowlers have been consistent in the tournament, taking wickets regularly and bowling tight; however, the batsmen have struggled and they need to recover from their disappointing performance quickly. The openers failed miserably in the last match and except Maqsood who scored 53 runs, none of the other batsmen put up a fight. The team struggled at 17-3; Umar Akmal and Maqsood’s partnership looked promising as they added 54 runs for the 5th wicket, but once this partnership was broken, the rest of the batsmen fell like a pack of cards. Pakistan lost by 117 runs and this has exposed their weakness of handling pressure situations once again. Saeed Ajmal claimed 3 wickets in the first innings and Junaid Khan took 2, whereas Mohammad Irfan and Hafeez took a wicket each; but they couldn’t stop the run flow and failed to make any serious damage to the opponents. The team is expected to perform better in the T20 series and will try their best to put up a winning performance here.
Having made a clean sweep in the ODI series, the South African team looks strong to come up trumps here too; however Pakistan is known to excel in the T20 format of the game and will definitely have some tricks up its sleeves for the opponents. Both sides have to adjust to this format quickly; however, South Africa has the psychological advantage and has better chances to emerge victorious once again.
