The Sunrisers Hyderabad started IPL 2019 wonderfully with three wins from their first four matches. Now, three losses in a row have pushed them down to 6th on the IPL League table and some cracks seem to be emerging in their gameplan.
Things are also not about to get any easier as they get ready to face the Chennai Super Kings. Seven wins from their eight matches have put Chennai four points clear of the next best team. They require just one more win to assure themselves of a playoff spot and are probably targeting a top-2 finish at this stage in the competition.
A team reshuffle went badly for the Sunrisers in the previous match. Their dependence on David Warner and Jonny Bairstow is apparent to every other team now. Can they find the depth in their squad to overcome the best team of IPL 2019 so far?
The Sunrisers seemed to be coasting towards a victory against Delhi in their previous match before a spectacular collapse ended their chase. The side went from being 101 for 2 to 116 all-out. No batman apart from David Warner and Jonny Bairstow reached double figures and this performance showed just how vulnerable the Sunrisers middle order is.
The Sunrisers had made a few changes to their playing eleven ahead of their previous match. Kane Williamson came back into the side, Khaleel Ahmed got a chance to play, Abhishek Sharma came into the team, and Ricky Bhui was given the responsibility of batting at number four.
Making so many changes in the middle of the campaign suggests that there are some deep problems in the Sunrisers camp. Not one of these moves except bringing Khaleel Ahmed into the side paid dividends. Kane Williamson definitely deserves to play in the side and will help solve the batting issues but it will be interesting to see if the other players also continue to be played.
The Sunrisers are struggling with their batting and cannot depend on just two batsmen to do all the work. Someone like Vijay Shankar or Deepak Hooda has to take responsibility and show that they can get the job done.
The bowling for the Sunrisers Hyderabad has not been as effective as in previous seasons. Rashid Khan is effective but is not getting a large number of wickets. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar has been quite expensive while Sandeep Sharma is struggling as well.
For a side that was expected to be one of the title contenders in IPL 2019, there seem to be too many holes in the playing eleven at the moment.
David Warner, Jonny Bairstow, KS Williamson, V Shankar, YK Pathan, Deepak Hooda, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shahbaz Nadeem, Khaleel Ahmed, S Sharma.
There have been a few matches in IPL 2019 where Chennai has gotten away with playing average cricket. In their previous match against the Kolkata Knight Riders, though, Chennai Super Kings were at their best.
The bowling performance from Chennai was one of the best we have seen from any team this season. Shardul Thakur was sensational and bowled four overs for just 18 runs and picked up two wickets while Imran Tahir picked up four wickets for 27 runs in his four overs.
MS Dhoni was brilliant as captain and used his resources brilliantly. Chennai Super Kings have not been shy about picking players for specific conditions. Harbhajan Singh has only played in spin-friendly conditions and Mitchell Santner has been picked when the conditions suit batting a bit more.
Deepak Chahar did not pick the early wickets that he has been used to and Ravindra Jadeja went for a lot of runs but there do not seem to be too many problems in the Chennai bowling lineup right now.
Chennai Super Kings started out a bit weak in the batting but the addition of Faf du Plessis has helped sort that out as well. The South African has been in tremendous form and made a contribution in every single match that he has played.
Shane Watson failed yet again and the lack of runs from him is definitely a big concern for Chennai.
Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayadu, Kedar Jadhav, and MS Dhoni have all got runs while Ravindra Jadeja and Mitchell Santner look in good touch as well.
The defending champions of the Indian Premier League are not showing any signs of slowing down and are going to be hard to stop in Hyderabad as well.
SR Watson, Faf du Plessis, SK Raina, Ambati Rayudu, Kedar Jadhav, Sam Billings, Ravindra Jadeja, Karn Sharma, Deepak Chahar, SN Thakur, Imran Tahir.
The team winning the toss may want to bat first. The pitch in Hyderabad has started showing some signs of slowing down and batting could be more difficult in the second half.

SRH vs CSK IPL 2019 is going to be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. The weather is expected to be perfect for playing cricket in Hyderabad on match day. There is no threat of rain and the temperatures should be around 30 degrees centigrade by the time the match starts.
The pitch in Hyderabad was a bit surprising in the previous match. It started to slow down and take turn during the second inning which made chasing very difficult. In match prior to that one, though, the pitch has remained excellent for batting throughout the match.
We think we are going to see a better batting surface for this match than what we saw in Hyderabad against Delhi.
We have decided to lean heavily in favor of the Chennai Super Kings while picking this Dream11 side simply because the options available in the Sunrisers do not look very appealing. We have included the maximum possible seven players from the Chennai lineup into our side.
Wicketkeeper: The choice here is between MS Dhoni and Jonny Bairstow. Dhoni has been in good form but bats in the lower order and his likelihood of scoring a really big score is much lesser than Bairstow. Jonny Bairstow, though, is pretty susceptible against spin. We are hoping that Chennai's tendency to start with Deepak Char and Shardul Thakur plays into Bairstow's hands.
Batsmen: We have picked Shane Watson, Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina, David Warner, and Kane Williamson into our side. The best time to bat is when the ball is hard and all of these players bat within the top-3 of their sides. David Warner has been in excellent form and will be tested against spin but we like his chances of getting a big score here.
All-Rounders: We have just chosen Mitchell Santner is the solitary all-rounder in the side. Santner is very good with the ball and is often given the new ball. He is likely to bowl his full quota of overs if he is picked.
Bowlers: We have space for four bowlers in the side. We have picked Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Khallel Ahmed, and Imran Tahir. The fact that Chennai has had one of the best bowling attacks in this tournament is reflected in our choice of three Chennai players. Imran Tahir picked up four wickets in his previous match and could easily get some more to his name again.
Sunrisers Hyderabad have lost their last four matches against the Chennai Super Kings and are coming into this match in poor form. They will need an exceptional performance from David Warner or Jonny Baitsow if they have to win. Taking all the factors into consideration, the Chennai Super Kings definitely appear to be the better side in this contest. Their bowling attack is capable of performing well under any conditions while the batting is in a pretty good state as well.
Back the Chennai Super Kings to win.
