About the Match
A mouth watering clash between two in-form teams awaits us as the Sunrisers Hyderabad take on the Kolkata Knight Riders. Both these teams are in the top half of the table and will be looking to not only secure their place for the knockouts but to also try and finish in the top-2 so that they get two chances of qualifying for the finals.
The Sunrisers absolutely crushed the Kings 11 in their last match while KKR continued their winning run with an emphatic victory over the Delhi Daredevils. The Sunrisers would be particularly pleased though that their batting order is finally living up to its potential.
David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan recognized that the pitch was flat, outfield small and went hard from the beginning. They both played with a freedom that had been missing up until now and we think a lot of that can be credited to the presence of Kane Williamson in the batting lineup.
Williamson has provided strength and stability to the lineup while also being extremely capable of upping the ante himself. Add to this the fact that an in-form Moises Henriques and Yuvraj Singh are also in this lineup, a Sunrisers team firing on all cylinders is going to be very hard to stop.
Of course, the reason why the Sunrisers have done so well up to now has been because of their bowling led by Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Rashid Khan. Moises Henriques has chipped in with some useful performances but the return of Ashish Nehra to form would be a big boost for the Sunrisers.
We really like the look of this team and think that they are peaking at just the right time.
Kolkata Knight Riders
KKR is almost through to the knockouts and the intensity with which they have played their games has been absolutely amazing to watch. A large part of this success can be credited to Gautam Gambhir who has been the leader of the batting pack and extremely proactive with his captaincy.
Robin Uthappa seems to have hit a new level of performance in the last few matches and has now raced to 331 runs in the tournament scored at 168.02 including a staggering 17 sixes. The leading run scorer of the team (and the IPL at the moment) is Gautam Gambhir with 376 runs though.
The KKR batting looks a little thin if they were to lose a quick couple of wickets but that has not happened up until now except in one game when Manish Pandey stepped up and won KKR the game.
The bowling attack for KKR is being led by Nathan Coulter-Nile, who has taken 11 wickets in 4 matches played so far and is a constant threat at any stage of the innings. Along with Sunil Narine, Umesh Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav, Chris Woakes and Piyush Chawla, KKR has probably the most versatile and well-rounded bowling attack in this tournament.
The real question now will be how they manage to adapt on the flat and unforgiving surface at Hyderabad.
Head To Head
The two teams have met each other 10 times, with KKR winning 7 out of those encounters. KKR won its first match against the Sunrisers pretty comfortably as well and would be looking to round things off in this match.
We have a feeling that this will be one of the more memorable matches of the tournament between two evenly matched sides. There is nothing much to separate these sides, however, we believe that the Sunrisers are a side on the rise and will be able to pull this victory off against KKR at home. Back the Sunrisers Hyderabad to win.
