SRH vs KXIP Match Prediction - Oct 08, 2020

As was expected before the tournament began, Mumbai Indians continue to maintain their supremacy at the points table with six points in five matches. They reasserted their dominance with a solid win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in their previous match. With that defeat, Sunrisers Hyderabad dropped to the seventh spot on the points table and would need to win the upcoming fixture to avoid sliding further.

Up next in the tournament, the Sunriers are set to meet King XI Punjab, who haven't had a good tournament either. In fact, Kings XI Punjab have done worse than Sunrisers Hyderabad, and are placed at the bottom of the ladder. Although, there are still a good number of matches to go a loss here will push the losing team a bit more farther from the playoffs. Both teams will be desperate to get back to the winning ways and we expect them both to come hard at each other. A cracker of the contest is certainly on the cards. The match between the two sides is to be played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, on 8th October 2020.

SRH vs KXIP Team Previews

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Sunrisers Hyderabad have historically been a bowling-heavy team that depends heavily on their fast-bowling, but with Bhuvneshwar Kumar out injured, Sunrisers Hyderabad are certainly in a spot of bother. It was apparent in their previous match as well, where in the absence of Kumar proved to be a factor not only at the beginning but also at the death.

With Mumbai Indians' win over Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad moved to sixth spot, ahead only by net run-rate. As many as four teams are tied with four points each and a win here will take Sunrisers into the top half of the table. Sunrisers have a net run-rate of -0.417 and any further damage to that could prove to be detrimental at the back end of the tournament.

While the knocks from Priyam Garg and Abhishek Sharma each would have given the management a lot of confidence, Sunrisers' batting still appears to be a little too over-reliant on their top four. Jonny Bairstow has looked all out of sorts in the recent matches and will quickly need to step up his game. Otherwise known for playing responsibly, Manish Pandey has been too adventurous in the middle-order, resulting in his early dismissal more often than not. Kane Williamson, as well, looked good in his first match but hasn't really impressed since then. Pushing Kane Williamson to bat at number three could help Sunrisers with their problems, but we don't think they are going to make any changes to their batting order, yet.

Although the Sunrisers were thrashed in the previous match, there were plenty of positives for them in that match against Mumbai Indians. Replacing Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Sandeep Sharma bowled well at the top and picked up an important wicket of Rohit Sharma. He is generally more effective while bowling with the new ball and David Warner will be looking to extract at least three good overs from Sandeep Sharma upfront. Another major positive for the Sunrisers was David Warner's return to form. Warner had gotten starts in many matches before the last game, but he could convert a start into a big one only against Mumbai Indians, albeit in a losing cause.

Despite the absence of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Sunrisers Hyderabad seems to be having a decent bowling attack at their disposal. The sheer presence of Rashid Khan to bowl in the middle-overs adds sharpness to their bowling attack while T Natarajan as shown that he is as good as any when it comes to bowling yorkers. On a surface that is expected to be conducive to spin, Abhishek Sharma and Abdul Samad can come in handy, even with the ball. Death bowling, however, seems to be a bit under the clouds of uncertainty as Kaul was smashed for plenty in the previous match. Given that it was his first match of the season, we expect Kaul to be given another chance here. All in all, Sunrisers depend heavily on some certain players to lead the effort and if even a few of them can contribute, Sunrisers will certainly be in for a treat.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Playing 11

David Warner, Jonny Bairstow, Manish Pandey, KS Williamson, Priyam Garg, Abhishek Sharma, Abdul Samad, Rashid Khan, S Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed, T Natarajan.

Kings XI Punjab

When the Kings XI Punjab romped past Royal Challengers Bangalore, not many would have imagined that the Kings will find themselves in the position they are in. They have been dismal in all the matches they played thereafter and would need a spectacular effort to bounce back from here. As it stands, they are placed at the bottom of the table with one of the five matches played. However, their net run-rate of 0.178 pretty much suggests that the margins of their losses haven't been huge and had a few things gone here or there, Kings XI Punjab could have been in a lot better position.

It's not that Kings XI Punjab have been dismal in all three departments of the game. In fact, much to everyone's surprise, two of the top three run-scorers in the competition are from Kings XI Punjab's camp. KL Rahul is leading the batting charts with 302 runs to his name and Mayank Agarwal is third on the ladder with 272 runs. While that is all good, their middle-order hasn't really contributed up until now. Nicholas Pooran's innings in the last match would have imbibed a lot of confidence among the team, but would still want Glenn Maxwell to get into the groove sooner rather than later.

Despite all the ups and downs, Kings XI Punjab's batting has done reasonably well and it has been their bowling that has lost them the matches more often than not. In the current edition of the IPL, Kings XI Punjab have been the most expensive team at the death over and unless they make some drastic changes to their playing eleven, this trend is likely to continue. Punjab's bowling was so poor in the last match that they couldn't even pick up one wicket in their last match, against Chennai Super Kings. Their bowling attack looked toothless with three out of five bowlers conceding runs at an economy rate of 10 or more runs an over.

Going into the upcoming match, expect a major change to this Kings XI Punjab's lineup. It is highly likely that one of Sheldon Cottrell or Chris Jordan will make way for Mujeeb Ur Rahman to come into the lineup. Also, even though Harpreet Brar wasn't too bad in the previous match, we expect him to make way for Ishan Porel for Kings to strengthen their batting lineup. Much anticipated inclusion of Chris Gayle - the Universe Boss, however, is still unlikely to there.

On paper, Kings XI Punjab have one of the best batting units in the tournaments. Their bowling, however, has been an altogether different story so far. Barring Mohammad Shami and Ravi Bishnoi, none of their bowlers has looked threatening. Frequent chops and changes to their lineup haven't helped either considering that Murugan Ashwin, who had done pretty well up until then, was dropped to make way for K Gowtham.

We are slowly getting towards the stages where each match will be of significant importance and Kings XI Punjab do not have much time to get their combination right. They are going to be under a lot of pressure to perform in the upcoming match and that may well just bring out of the best out of them. If that happens, Kings XI Punjab would be a tough team to get past, not only in the upcoming match but also in the matches to follow.

Kings XI Punjab Playing 11

Lokesh Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Mandeep Singh, Nicholas Pooran, Glenn Maxwell, Simran Singh, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Sheldon Cottrell.

SRH vs KXIP Toss Prediction

In all the matches played here so far, only once the team batting first has emerged on top. For the team chasing, it will be imperative to keep wickets in hand to take advantage of the dew, which tends to come into effect at around 10th over. However, the pressure of chasing could make a massive difference here considering that the surface tends to slow down with the passage of time. That is certainly likely to have a bearing on the decision made at the toss and we expect the captain winning the toss to bat first.

Pitch and Conditions

Although it was expected to be otherwise, Dubai has so far been a pretty high-scoring venue. More often than not, the teams batting first have enjoyed optimal conditions to bat and the dew has ensured that it isn't too different in the second innings. For the team that bats second, negotiating the first few overs has been key to hunt down huge totals. The weather on Thursday is expected to be nice and clear, but the dew and the wind might make it a tad difficult for the bowlers in the second innings. We have massive boundaries here and spinners will have a huge role to play. Considering what has happened in the recent matches and the surface condition likely to be in the upcoming match, the team batting first would want to post a total of at least 185.

SRH vs KXIP Betting Tips

Both sides will be under the pump to get back to the winning ways and the team that handles the pressure better is more likely to emerge on top in the upcoming match. While the injury to Bhuvneshwar Kumar is a massive setback for the Sunrisers, they still seem to be a pretty settled unit. On the other hand, Kings XI Punjab will need to get their bowling attack right as quickly as possible. Both sides depend heavily on their top-four, but with a better bowling unit, Sunrisers Hyderabad appears to be an overall better team. We expect this match to down to the wire, but considering that Sunrisers Hyderabad are a more settled team and have done better than Kings XI Punjab in their recent matches, the Sunrisers are the favorites to prevail in this all-important encounter on Thursday.

Both sides have a strong top order and are expected to get off to good starts in their respective innings. Sunrisers, however, have a little fragile middle-order and might adopt a little cautious approach in the first few overs. On the other hand, Kings XI Punjab have a decent middle order and as has the case been so far, they are expected to come out hard and have a higher score at the end of the first six overs.

    Total Runs

Although Dubai has never been known as a high-scoring venue, things have been different in this IPL. More often than not, we have seen teams score totals of around 200 batting first. While chasing has been difficult, good batting teams have generally managed to score a reasonably good total. Also, both sides have been in pretty good batting form and a match total of over 329 is certainly probable in the upcoming match.

Unlike Sharjah Cricket Ground, this ground has large boundaries, and hitting sixes regularly is not going to be easy. However, to have an over with more than 19 runs, a string of sixes is imperative. That is unlikely to be the case at this venue and we expect the highest scoring over of the match to be of less than 20 runs.

    Mayank Agarwal to Hit a 4 and a 6

    Yes at 2.00

    Visit

Mayank Agarwal has been in splendid form in the tournament and his third place on the top-scorers chart is evidence of that. He is a player who generally avoids taking risks early on in the innings and can go big once set. With the form he is in, hitting a six and a four should be a walk in the park for him.

    Total Runs - David Warner

    Over 28.5 at 1.83

David Warner has without a doubt been Sunrisers' most consistent batsmen. After a string of middling score, he scored a superb half-century in the previous match and that should have imbibed a lot in him. A confident David Warner is a dangerous batsman to deal with and getting him out cheaply will be a tough ask, especially for a bowling lineup that failed to pick even one wicket in the previous match. Bet on David Warner to hit a personal score of 29 or more.
