SRH vs RR Team Previews

Sunrisers Hyderabad

The Sunrisers lifted their maiden IPL title during the 2016 season, but they haven’t been able to emulate the performance in the subsequent seasons. On the contrary, they will be pretty disappointed with their performances in the last 2 seasons, where they finished 8th on the points table.

SRH hit the reset button before this season and has made some big changes in the squad as well as the coaching staff. Aiden Markram is all set to lead the team this time around, making him the 3rd skipper in 4 seasons. In addition to being a good leader, Markram also provides stability to the batting, and an extra option to bowl during the middle overs.

However, the team’s most exciting buy during the auctions is undoubtedly English middle-order batsman Harry Brook, who has shown tremendous form in red-ball cricket and was instrumental in his team’s 3-0 win over Pakistan late last year. SRH has a strong batting line-up thanks to players like Heinrich Klaasen, Mayank Agarwal, Glenn Philips, Rahul Tripathi, and Abdul Samad.

Hyderabad has also retained pace sensation Umran Malik, whose searing pace will be the perfect compliment to the accuracy of Bhuvaneshwar Kumar. In addition to them, the squad has Fazalhaq Farooqi, T Natarajan, Kartik Tyagi, and Fazalhaq Farooqi to reinforce the seam attack. The departure of Rashid Khan has left a big void in the spin department, leaving only Mayank Markande and Adil Rashid as the full-time spinners in the squad.

While they are good bowlers, they lack the quality that Rashid brings to the table.

Rajasthan Royals

The Royals stunned cricket pundits and fans alike after they won the inaugural season of the IPL back in 2008. They came achingly close to winning it for the second time in the 2022 season but were defeated by debutants Gujarat Titans in a closely fought encounter.

Sanju Samson, who will be leading the RR for a third consecutive season, has proved to be a great asset for the team. He is the all-time leading run-scorer for RR and will be looking to build up on his lead by playing some big innings this season the team has a formidable opening pair in the form of Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

The latter is coming into this tournament on the back of some solid performances in the domestic circuit and will be hoping to carry on with his form. However, the middle order consisting of Devdutt Padikkal, Riyan Parag, and Shimron Hetmeyer lacked consistency in the last season. However, the addition of Joe Root to the squad will lend stability to the middle order.

The Royals have one of the most lethal spin attacks in the form of Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Adam Zampa, all of whom can turn the game around in a matter of few overs. The pace attack did receive a bit of a setback as Prasidh Krishna and Obed McCoy have been ruled out due to injuries. The Royals have splurged close to 6 crore rupees to rope in former West Indies skipper Jason Holder, who will spearhead the pace attack along with Trent Boult.

However, the team lacks quality Indian pacers.

The team winning the toss will likely opt to bowl first here.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium is well-balanced, providing equal opportunities to the bowlers as well as the batsmen. The track is flat with good and consistent bounce, allowing the batsmen to play naturally. There is a very little movement for the quicker bowlers but the spinners will get some turn here.

The average first-inning score here is around 160 runs. The weather is expected to remain clear and since it is an afternoon match, it will be quite hot in the middle, with temperatures of around 35 degrees Celsius.

SRH vs RR Betting Tips

While the odds being offered for both teams are quite similar, we feel that the Royals have a slight edge here. They have a strong batting line-up and the presence of all-rounders like Riyan Parag and Jason Holder gives them plenty of depth in the batting. They have a formidable spin attack which can ultimately make the biggest difference here.

Bet on the Rajasthan Royals to win.

Rajasthan is likely to open with their time-tested pair of Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal. The duo is a perfect mix of youth and experience and has provided Rajasthan with some good starts in the last season. Yashasvi has had an excellent domestic season leading up to this tournament, while Buttler had some good outings during England’s recent tour to Bangladesh. Looking at both their form, we are backing Rajasthan to have a higher opening partnership in this game.
