About the Match
Sri Lanka was very convincing in its win over the Bangladeshi’s in the first T20 and will want to ensure they don’t slip up this time around. Bangladesh has continued to struggle in the shortest format of the game and will need to raise their game quickly to avoid a repeat of last game’s result.
2nd T20I Preview
Kusal Perera showed just why Sri Lanka was distraught at not having his services for the earlier matches with a match winning 77. He was severe on anything short and made full use of the boundaries square of the wicket.
He was helped along by Upul Tharanga at the top of the order and a brief cameo by Seekkuge Prasanna at the end if the innings. There was enough to suggest that this Sri Lankan batting order is capable of getting big runs when things go their way.
We would back the in-form Perera to top score once again, although he has shown some traits of inconsistency in the past. Gunaratne could also be one Sri Lankan batsman to keep an eye on as he has shown a fantastic temperament in the shortest form of the game recently.
The biggest gain for Sri Lanka in the bowling department was the triumphant return of Lasith Malinga who showed that he is still a threat even after losing a yard or two of pace. Nuwan Kulasekara was a little disappointing in his return to the t20 side, however, Sanjaya showed enough talent to be given a long run by the Sri Lankan management.
Our pick to take the most wickets for Sri Lanka is the spinner Seekkuge Prasanna.
Bangladeshi fans get very frustrated when their team talks of inexperience even after all these years. They once again showed a complete lack of game awareness as they threw away an excellent start to finally reach a middling score.
Sabbir Rahman and Soumya Sarkar played some pleasing shots for a while but eventually flattered to deceive. We think the Bangladeshi team is feeling some weariness at the end of the tour and is having trouble concentrating.
Sabbir Rahman could once again be the top scorer for the side if he does not throw his wicket away. We would love to see Mosaddek Hossain get a chance to bat up the order given that he has been scoring runs consistently for Bangladesh.
The bowling suffered from the presence of dew and this could be a factor in the second game once again. The ball slipping off the surface seems to minimize the impact of Mustafizur Rahman and so only back him to get the most wickets if Bangladesh bowl first. If they bowl second then Taskin Ahmed could be a good option for top wicket taker.
Sri Lanka has all the momentum going for it at this point and the short turnaround can make it difficult for a team to recover. Sri Lanka looks good to win this series 2-0.
