Things are beginning to get super interesting in the ongoing Saurashtra Premier League. Its been a while since the Sorath Lions and the Kutch Warriors have taken the field. They both are set to take on each other in the upcoming contest in the tournament which is to be played on 18th May at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot. Playing after a gap of three days, both the sides have lagged a bit in terms of the number of matches played and they both will be looking for a win so as to avoid having to play catch up cricket in the back end of the tournament.
It was incredible to see Lions thump Zalawad Royals - one of the best sides of the tournament, a couple of days earlier. Their bowlers did exceedingly well to get rid of Sheldon Jackson and Chetershwar Pujara which eventually turned out to be the crucial moment in the match.
Divyaraj Chetan was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up four key wickets without giving much away. Almost all their bowlers were economical and picking up regular wickets alongside keeping things tight restricted Royals to a reasonably low score.
Chasing a low score, it was a matter of not losing wickets and applying themselves and so they did to excellent effect. Himalaya Barad started off his campaign in the tournament with a remarkable fifty and will be a key figure as far as Lions' batting is concerned. Their batting wasn't really tested against the Royals in the last match, but with Warriors known for their batting, it's not going to be as easy for them.
Divyaraj Chauhan M, Himalaya Barad R, Kevin Jivrajani S, Tarang Gohel H, Aryandevsingh Jhala, Sagar Jogyani D, Bhavyesh Donga M, Chirag Jani, Chetan Sakariya, Dharmendrasinh Jadeja, Prabhu Sindhav.
The Warriors have played only one game in the tournament thus far - against Halar Heroes, and their outing was disappointing, to say the least. They are yet to register a win in the tournament, but the fact that they've played only one match goes in their favor.
Led by Jaydev Unadkat, their bowlers did decently in the first match, restricting Heroes for a total of mere 147 runs, but their batsmen failed to stitch partnerships as Warriors fell short of the required target.
Avi Barot played a useful hand the other day, but no contribution from anyone else in their batting lineup resulted in an embarrassing loss. On the whole, they have a decent bowling attack, but a batting lineup that is a little too fragile which is evident by Jaydev Unadkat coming into bat at number six. If their batting can deliver consistently, they can certainly be a force to deal with.
Avi Barot, Rajdeep Darbar, Suresh Tamil, Snell Patel, Hitendra Jadeja, Kuldeep Raval, Amit Ranjan, Fenil Soni, Parth Bhut, Agnivesh Ayachi, JD Unadkat.
Both the sides have a striking similarity in their team composition. They both are heavily reliant on their bowling department while batting is a little too fragile for both of them. Sorath Lions are coming on the back of a win and have the momentum with them. Kutch Warriors, on the other hand, are coming on the back off a hard loss and bouncing back from which can be difficult. With a strong win over Royals, the Lions will be a confident unit and are better placed to win the upcoming encounter.
