After a break of nearly one-week long, thanks to their wash-out against Southern Vipers, Surrey Stars are set to take the field yet again as they begin their quest to get to strengthen their position at the top. With eleven points to their name, they have already qualified for the playoffs, but they'll still be looking to finish the league stage with as much momentum as possible. They are set to take on Loughborough Lightning in their next encounter, which is to be played at the Woodbridge Road in Guildford, on Thursday, 15th August. Loughborough Lightning have struggled for consistency in the tournament thus far, and with five points in four matches, they no longer stand a chance to qualify for the next round.
The second spot on the ladder as their last match was called off without a ball bowled due to rain. They would consider themselves pretty unfortunate to be denied a top of the table spot primarily due to incessant weather conditions and will be keen to register a win in the upcoming contest.
They are currently placed at the second spot, right behind Wester storm, with a superb net run-rate of +1.373. They had a terrific start to the competition with a win over Yorkshire Diamonds and continued their dominance with yet another victory in their second fixture.
Lizelle Lee and Sarah Taylor have both been in incredible form for them. In the bowling department, the regular contributions from Dane van Niekerk and Laura Marsh have kept them ahead. Up until now in the tournament, Surrey Stars have arguably been the most dominant side with an excellent batting lineup that goes deep and a bowling attack full of variety.
Lizelle Lee, Bryony Smith, Natalie Sciver, Dane van Niekerk, Marizanne Kapp, Aylish Cranstone, Laura Marsh, Mady Villiers, Grace Gibbs, Amy Gordon, Rhianna Southby.
Unlike their last year's campaign, Loughborough Lightning have failed to make a mark and are already looking a little down and out. They've won just one match so far, and they no longer have any chances to qualify for the next round.
In the four matches played, they are coming into this match with three landslide losses behind them which can be validated by their dismal net run-rate of -0.254. The lack of star-power has certainly hampered their campaign this year as the team-work which was their strength in the last addition has been found missing.
Barring Amy Jones, England's star wicket-keeper batsmen, none of their batsmen, have been amongst the runs. She, too, has only looked like a shadow of herself, scoring at a strike-rate of just 112. With the ball, Sarah Glenn has been excellent, but like their batting, she's been the only bowler to pick up the wickets and contain runs for them.
Hayley Matthews, Amy Ellen Jones, Chamari Atapattu, Mignon du Preez, Georgia Adams, Jenny Gunn, Kathryn Bryce, Sarah Glenn, Lucy Higham, Tara Norris, Kirstie Gordon.
While this match is inconsequential as far as qualification scenarios are concerned, both the sides will be looking to register a win. For Stars, a win will bring them back to the contention of finishing at the top whereas the Lightning will redeem some pride back. We expect it to be a hard-fought contest with plenty of fireworks on display from both sides. Comparing the two teams on paper and based on performances in the tournament so far, Surrey Stars are firm favorites to emerge on top in this match.
