We are almost at the halfway stage in Kia Women's Super League, and things are already looking bright and sunny for the top four teams. The two teams placed at the bottom two spots are yet to win a game, and unless they do that quickly, the combination of the top-four sides is going to stay the same. Western Storm are bossing the table with three wins in as many matches, and Surrey Stars are right behind them with two wins amounting to nine points. They'll be looking to continue building on their superb form when they take on Southern Viper Women in the next game of the tournament which is to be played on Monday, 12th August, at The Oval, London. Both the sides have had a decent run in the tournament so far, and with form not any issue for any of them, we expect a scintillating contest between the two sides.
The Stars have played a couple of games in the tournament so far and have won both of those. They have a spectacular net run-rate of +1.373 which speaks volumes about the dominance they've had in both of their matches.
In their first match, the Stars didn't do particularly well with the bat, but their bowlers were so disciplined and accurate in the second innings, that Yorkshire didn't stand a chance. Batting first, Surrey Stars crawled through to a total of 130 for 9 in their 20 overs and restricted Diamonds for 121. On paper and as per the scoreline, the match may appear to be a humdinger, but Yorkshire Diamonds always looked behind the eight-ball after the Stars' bowlers started picking up wickets in the middle overs.
Sarah Taylor was their star with their bat as she scored 43 off just 41 deliveries, which proved to be vital for them. After playing a brilliant little second-fiddle to Sarah Taylor, Natalie Sciver did exceedingly well with the ball as well as she rocked Diamonds' chase with two crucial wickets. Marsh was their star performer with the ball as she returned with impressive figures of 3 for 17 in her four overs.
In their most recent match, which was against Lancashire Thunder, their bowlers once again wreaked havoc on the opponents' batsmen as they restricted Thunder for a paltry total of 120. While it was Lizelle Lee's fifty that guided their chase, Sarah Taylor's well-compiled 36 provided them with much-needed assurance in the middle-order. On the bowling front, Dane van Niekerk was the pick of their bowlers as she picked up three important scalps for just 20 runs in her four overs.
All in all, Surrey Stars have an extremely well-balanced unit, which bats deep and has plenty of options in the bowling department. They have shown versatility by winning their first and second matches after batting and bowling first respectively and appear to be well acquainted with the conditions. Given the way they're doing at the moment, beating them is going to take some miraculous effort, not just in the next game, but also in the tournament ahead.

Southern Vipers had a terrific start to the tournament, winning both their matches - against Lancashire Thunder and Loughborough Lightning respectively. They, however, failed to continue their winning run when they met Western Storm as they were blown away by a terrific innings from English skipper Heather Knight.
They are currently placed third at the points table with two wins and a loss to their name. Just like Surrey Stars, they have nine points to their name, albeit in one extra game, backed by a superb net run-rate of +0.61.
They won their first two matches on the back of some excellent batting from Danielle Wyatt who scored 54 and 40 in their first and second matches respectively. With the likes of Stephanie Taylor, and Tammy Beaumont to follow in the middle order, both of whom have been in good form, they have a superb batting lineup. Having said that, they lack batsmen who can bat around the trio, as seen in their last two matches, which will be a considerable cause of concern for their management.
Tash Farrant is in excellent form with the ball and is coming off two remarkable three-wicket haul and could be a tough customer to deal with, even for the in-form Stars' batsmen. On paper, the Vipers are an as good side as any, but they are coming off a heart-wrenching defeat which can sometimes be a tough team to put behind. If they can do that and play the way they were playing prior to the last game, Surrey Stars will undoubtedly have their work cut-out on Monday.

Check out the Dream11 fantasy team for the 9th Kia Women's Super League match which is to be played between Surrey Stars and Southern Vipers at London:
Going by the head to head encounters, there's nothing to choose between these two sides. In a total of four matches played between them, each team has won twice, alternatively. In the last encounter between them, back in August 2018, Surrey Stars just managed to edge past the Vipers with a four-wicket win. The two teams have produced some scintillating cricket in the past and going by the way these two teams have performed in the tournament so far; it could be anybody's game. However, Southern Stars are coming off a massive win in their last match wherein they chased down the total with more than five overs to spare and consequently have the momentum. With a well-balanced side and strong momentum backing them, the Stars are better placed to win the upcoming fixture and take the top spot at the ladder.
