About the Match
The Patriots with 2 consecutive wins against formidable teams like Tridents and Tallawahs are flying high with confidence and sitting at the 3rd position with 6 points; they will meet Amazon Wariors, who have had some hiccups to start with and are currently placed at the bottom of the table with only 2 points, on 8th July at Basseterre. Although this is their first appearance in the CPL tournament, the Patriots have impressed the fans with their all-round efforts, registering convincing wins. On the other hand, the Warriors who were runners-up last time, will try to bounce back quickly to stay in the race with a much-needed win here.
St Kitts and Nevis Patriots
Tabraiz Shamsi has been the pillar of the bowling department in recent matches and he yet again helped the team get to a vantage point by claiming 4-10 against the Tridents in the last game; along with Afridi, who picked up 3 wickets, they restricted the opponent to 135 runs. The batsmen led by Samuel’s unbeaten 71 off 54 and Guptill’s 45 off 35 deliveries, proved to be too much for the Tridents bowlers, who combined in all sorts of ways to triumph but failed to do so.
In the previous match against Tallawahs, the batsmen built a strong foundation with the help of Lewis’ 82 off 45 and good contributions from Brathwaite and Guptill; they set a competitive total of 199 runs, which the bowlers defended well with Shamsi’s brilliance, who scalped 4 wickets. Cottrell and Afridi took 3 and 3 scalps respectively to help them win the match by a massive 119 runs.
Their recent victories have shown that the team is well-set to post huge totals or chase a competitive one with ease; with bowlers like Shamsi, Cottrell and Afridi who are peaking at the right moment, this team surely packs a punch no matter who the opponent is.
Guyana Amazon Warriors
When they met previously, the Warriors had defeated the Patriots by 7 wickets and they will try to repeat the performance here to survive; bowlers Beaton, Narine and Bishoo had combined well to restrict the opponent to 149 runs, which the batsmen led by Ramdin’s unbeaten 54 and a good knock of 41 runs by Simmons, had successfully chased. They will try to come back with the winning combination to upset the high flying Patriots here.
In the last match against Red Steel, however, the batsmen fell like a pack of cards with only Simmons faring well with a heroic half-century; Hodge and Narine got to double digit figures but all the rest got out for below 10 runs to muster up only 11 8 runs. Although Bishoo performed well by picking up 4 wickets, the others failed to defend the total.
They have won only one match till now and need a win here to improve their position; with good performers like Narine, Bishoo and Beaton, the bowling unit looks good. The batsmen need to pull up their socks if they want to stay alive.
While the Warriors have the experience and motivation to do well in the upcoming match, we feel that the Patriots who are moving ahead with conviction, will dominate and avenge their previous defeat with another win here on Wednesday
