About the Match
The Patriots suffered defeat against Amazon Warriors in the last match and although they remain in the third position with 6 points, they will be cautious against the Zouks, whom they take on 10th July at Basseterre. The Zouks, are placed second on the table with 7 points but lost their previous game against Tallawahs by 9 wickets; they are eager to repeat their winning strategy against the Patriots in the upcoming contest. On the other hand, Patriots will be looking forward to avenge their previous defeat that was handed to them by the Zouks on 24th June; it will surely be fireworks across the park with both sides trying to dominate the other right from the very first ball.
St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots
Batting first against Warriors, Guptill and Lewis couldn’t repeat their hard-hitting tactics and fell easy prey to spin and pace in the early part of the innings; a spirited 61 off 40 by Samuels helped the team get to 158 runs on board. The others down the batting line-up too didn’t impress much with all of them getting out for below 20 runs each. The target was defendable going by Warriors’ recent form but except Cottrell who claimed 2 wickets, none of the bowlers were able to create magic on the field. Tanvir and Afridi were economical but with players like Shamsi giving away 14 runs per over, the match resulted in a loss.
The scenario was different against the Tridents with Shamsi picking up an astounding 4 wickets and giving away a measly 10 runs; Afridi with his spin bowling claimed 3-34, helping them restrict the opponent to a lowly 135, which was successfully chased down by Guptill and Samuels.
Samuels in in great form and is a true asset in the batting line-up along with sturdy batsmen like Guptill, Lewis and Brathwaite; they need to put the recent defeat behind them and rise up to the occasion along with some sharp bowling spells from Shamsi, Afridi and Cottrell.
St. Lucia Zouks
Having posted 158 runs against the Tallawahs, thanks to an unbeaten 83 off 57 by Pietersen, the Zouks bowlers couldn’t convert it into a win, failing to tighten their spells or take wickets. Fidel Edwards was the lone wicket-taker but it hardly made a dent on Gayle’s plans. They will need to be cautious against the Patriots and use bowlers like Gabriel, Edwards and Leie who have been successful against the opposition in the past.
Against the Tridents, the batsmen posted a massive 202 runs batting first with Fletcher scoring 77 off 50 while Pietersen showed consistency by posting a well-made 73 off 39 balls. Although Charles is looking out of form, they have enough talent and experience to bounce back in the next match.
Sammy, who took 3-35 against Tridents, will need to lead from the front and take wickets at regular pace while Shillingford, Nathan McCullum and Shannon Gabriel must fire from all cylinders to keep the Patriots batsmen in check.
When the two teams met previously, the Zouks had outwitted the Patriots with an all-round effort and they look strong enough to do so yet again; however, Patriots who have impressed everyone with their performance so far, will not be able to get past determined Zouks to win this round on Friday
