Chasing 154 against Tallawahs, the batting line-up went through their ups and downs but finally fell short of their target by 5 runs; Simmons started the innings well with 29 runs while Faf du Plessis and Carter contributed with 27 runs each but none of them could steady the partnership. Devon Thomas did his best to bring in the runs with a superb 7-ball 25 but others like Brathwaite, Perera and Hodge fell under pressure. Earlier, Tabraiz Shamsi picked up 2-17 to stifle the opposition while Santokie and Perera took 3 wickets between them; but their efforts went in vain in the end.
In the match against Amazon Warriors, it was Hodge and Thomas who steadied the innings with 38 runs each in the middle; Perera and Plessis played useful knocks to take the total to 164 but the bowlers failed to defend the total and they lost the opener by 4 wickets. Santokie has been the leading wicket-taker the last three seasons and although he has found some success in the two games so far, he will need to up the ante to outwit the opponents here.
On the other hand, all-rounders like Brathwaite, Perera, Hodge and Carter will have to play crucial role in setting up strong targets; Faf du Plessiswill have to strategize well and overall, they have good resources who can help bounce back with a much-needed win here.
St. Lucia Zouks
Gunning for 163 runs, Charles posted a heroic 52 off 38 to build the foundation against T&T Riders; Fletcher and Miller helped to keep the scoreboard ticking while captain Sammy brought his all-rounder skills to use to steer the team to victory. Earlier, the bowlers combined well to restrict the opponents to 162; Shane Watson, who has been consistent with the wickets, claimed 3-26 to destabilize the middle order while speedster Morkel, and others like Kumar and Davis provided quick breakthroughs.
They have a strong batting line-up with big names like Charles, Watson, Miller, Fletcher and Mike Hussey, who can come out all guns blazing in order to dominate the Patriots here; Nitish Kumar has earned recognition in Canada for his batting skills and will be eager to make a good impression here.
The bowling attack has experienced players like Sammy, Watson and Morkel, who can destroy the opponent with their varied pace; Mayers, Davis, Kumar and Ramsaran bring depth to the squad and if the batting line-up supports them well, they can definitely turn the tide in their favour.
