About the Match
The Zouks defeated newly formed team Patriots in their last game to move up to No.2 position in the ongoing CPL T20 league with 3 points on board from two matches; they will now play against last-year runner-ups Amazon Warriors, who lost their opening game against Tridents and are currently at the bottom of the table. The contest will see both these teams use the resources at hand to the best of their capacities and try to dominate the other right from the very first ball; it needs to be seen which side will be able to keep a cool head above its shoulders and triumph on Friday.
St. Lucia Zouks
Winning the match against the Patriots, the Zouks have received a major morale boost to their campaign and have moves ahead to the second position on the table; the bowlers restricted the opposition to 149 runs thanks to a combined effort by Shannon Gabriel, who took 3-19 and Fidel Edwards who claimed 2 wickets. Sammy also took a wicket and led the team with a cool head, mixing it up in the first innings to disallow Patriots from building partnerships. The batsmen chased with conviction as Fletcher and Charles got together to put up a 81-run opening stand; while the latter stood unbeaten at 69 off 44 which included five sixes, Fletcher scored 48 from just 30 deliveries smashing 7 fours and a six . Kevin Pietersen contributed well to help the team reach the target with four overs to spare. Earlier, the Zouks had shared points with Red Steel in a rain-affected game wherein Pietersen’s 42 off 26 and Fletcher’s powerful 57 off 49 took the team to a competitive total of 179 runs but the match was cut-short and abandoned due to rains. The team has a good mix of hard-hitting batsmen like Pietersen, Fletcher, Johnson Charles and Ross Taylor while bowlers like Kemar Roach, Shannon Gabriel, Fidel Edwards, Sammy and Eddie Leie are helping the team get the desired results.
Guyana Amazon Warriors
They lost their opening match against current champions Barbados Tridents after being unable to chase a modest total of 158 runs; except Dilshan, who posted 24 off 27, the rest of the top order batsmen got out for single digits. Hodge and Dilshan posted a 35-run stand for the 4th wicket and Fudadin helped along with Permaul down the order but the others failed to impress with the bat, getting all-out for just 109 runs. The bowlers worked hard but couldn’t stop Pollard and company from posting a good total; Narine picked up 2-22 while Permal contributed with a wicket but the others gave away too many runs. They will need to come out all guns blazing with the bat to prove their talent and experience with the competition getting heated up; the bowlers also must find their rhythm against the Zouks and a win here will definitely boost their morale for upcoming games.
Although the Warriors have the experience and talent with them, going by their recent winning performance, we feel that the Zouks are better placed to win the match on Friday and take their campaign ahead
