Placed at the bottom of the points table, Sylhet Thunder are in a desperate position. They now need to win almost all their remaining matches to have even an outside chance to finish among the top four teams. They'd have to start hitting hard with their next game, which they are all set to play against Comilla Warriors. The match between the two sides is to be played on the evening of 2nd December at Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Like Thunder, the Warriors too aren't sure of a playoff berth. However, they are pretty much in the reach, but a loss here would certainly spoil their chances, at least to some extent. Considering that survival is at stake for both the sides, we expect them both to come out all guns blazing. A humdinger of a contest is certainly on the cards.
Sylhet Thunder have without a doubt been the worst performing team of the season, but all is not lost, yet. Even though a difficult job, they can still march into the playoffs should they win all their remaining fixtures. They are currently placed at the bottom of the pit with just one win in eight matches and will need to play out of their skins to win all of their remaining fixtures.
While their bowling has done decently in the last few matches, their batting has been substandard. Even in the last two matches, they were restricted to subpar totals of 134 and 157 respectively. On paper, they have the likes of Mohammad Mithun, Johnson Charles, Andre Fletcher, but none of them has managed to fire consistently for the Thunder.
On the bowling front, the likes of Nayeem Hasan, Ebadot Hossain, and Naveen Ul Haq have done pretty well for them.they returned with the decent figures in the last match and kept a strong hold on their opponent's scoring rate before their other bowlers gave away a few runs to ease Rangers' nerves. All in all, it's been a tricky tournament for Sylhet Thunder with poor performance from almost all their players. If they have to step up, now is the time, and failing to do so would mean curtains for them as far as the tournament is concerned.
ADS Fletcher, J Charles, Mohammad Mithun, R Talukdar, Sherfane Rutherford, Nazmul Hossain Milon, S Gazi, Nayeem Hasan, Monir Hossain, Naveen-ul-Haq, Ebadat Hossain.
With three wins from eight matches, the Warriors are placed at the sixth spot on the points table. They have six points with a net run-rate of 0.237. While their net run-rate is pretty decent and would come in handy should things get close towards the back-end of the competition, they'd still have to win atleast four of their remaining six matches.
Of late, the Warriors have had a reasonably good time. They lost to Rajshahi Royals in a high-scoring contest but followed that loss up with a scintillating win of Chattogram Challengers. The Challengers are placed at the top of the ladder and beating them would have provided Warriors with immense confidence boost.
Against the power-packed lineup of Chattogram Challengers, the Warriors bowlers did an exceedingly good job to keep things tight. David Wiese and Soumya Sarkar were excellent and returned with the superb figures of 20 for 1 and 2 for 20. They have been two of the most consistent bowlers for the Warriors alongside Abu Hider and Mujeeb Ur Rahman and their performance will be vital in the upcoming contest as well.
Soumya Sarkar, Stiaan van Zyl, WU Tharanga, Yasir Ali Choudhary, Sabbir Rahman, D Wiese, Mahidul Islam Bhuiyan Ankon, Abu Hider, Sunzamul Islam, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Al-Amin Hossain.
The importance of this match cannot be overstated. Both the sides are fighting for survival in the tournament and would want nothing less than a win. While Warriors can still afford to lose a couple of matches and still qualify for the playoffs, they would want ot win as many matches as soon as possible, especially the easy ones. Considering how the two teams have fared in the tournament so far, Sylhet Thunder would have to do something miraculous to get past Warriors. Placing your money on a Warriors' win would be the way to go in this fixture.
