About the Match
Sunrisers Hyderabad is set to host the Knight Riders of Kolkata in game eight of IPL season 9. Twice champions, Kolkata Knight Riders has had an upper hand against the Sunrisers in IPL, winning four of the six clashes between the two since 2012. Nonetheless, a new season means a new story and with revamped squads, the Knight Riders will not be expecting a routine win against the Sunrisers.
The Sunrisers had the worst nightmare of going against the hot favorites, Royal Challengers Bangalore in their opening fixture. The Kohli-AB cameo, the other day, bred too much torment for the Hyderabad-based franchise to handle upfront.
Hyderabad-based club will have a daunting task of finding the right combination in its batting lineup. Against the Bangalore, opening batsman, David Warner was the only one who provided some resistance against Kohli XI while Eoin Morgan, batting at number seven, stood not out at 22 of 18 balls. A quick-fire 32 of 18 balls by Ashish Reddy did not help their cause as well. Shikhar Dhawan, on the contrary, is coming off a disappointing World T20 campaign, and cannot be relied upon.
However, blaming the batting entirely would be unjust since the team accumulated a decent score of 182 while chasing a mammoth total. The major responsibility lies among the bowlers who could not prevent any of the RCB batsmen, except Chris Gayle, from putting up a show. Ashish Nehra, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, and Mustafizur Rahman are good bowlers, but all three are wicket-taking options and cannot prevent the leakage of runs.
KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS:
Having already tasted IPL glory twice previously, Kolkata Knight Riders has registered good starting performances in its opening fixtures. The Knight Riders beat Delhi comprehensively with a superb bowling performance while surrendering a winning position to a Rohit Sharma inspired run-chase exhibition.
Overall, the Riders have batted and bowled extremely well in the tournament so far. We had predicted in our preview that Kolkata is one of the hot favorites to reach the finals this season
and with back-to-back good performances, it only proves that the Gambhir-led and Shahrukh Khan inspired franchise is not only favorable to beat the Hyderabad Sunrisers but will carry this performance further into the tournament.
Yes – Andre Russel had a bad day against Mumbai Indians but his performance the other day against disheartened Daredevils was world class. Besides, the KKR side brings control in bowling in the form of the veteran, Brad Hogg, and the leggy, Piyush Chawla. On the other hand, the top three or four KKR batsmen have performed in both the fixtures, which will be the key in this fixture.
KKR for a win hands down. However, the victory won’t come as a piece of cake since Warner can do some damage, single-handedly. KKR bowlers will have to keep Warner quiet for a while and tempt him into playing rash strokes. Once Warner goes down, it won’t be too difficult for KKR to wrap up the innings quickly
