About the Match
It’s going to be a tough contest between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals on Apr 18th at Abu Dhabi, with both teams having talented players who can turn the match at crucial situations and are in tremendous form, be it the domestic arena or the international platform. While Hyderabad has a balanced mix of experience, overseas players and fresh talent, the youngsters in the Rajasthan team lack in experience and will depend heavily on their skipper to guide them through. Both teams however have newcomers who have done well in domestic cricket and will try to build their reputation here. It will be interesting to see which of the two experienced captains can make the best use of their resources and emerge victorious on Friday.
The team composition is quite impressive with the management having made some smart investments; apart from retaining their star players, Shikhar Dhawan and the phenomenal Dale Steyn, they added some match-winners like David Warner, Aaron Finch, Brendan Taylor, Ishant Sharma and Darren Sammy, who has worked wonders for the West Indies team. The bowling attack will be led by Steyn, who can single-handedly take on the opposition; he will be supported well by the spinners Amit Mishra, who’s made a good comeback, the in-form Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and the talented Karan Sharma and Parvez Rasool. To give depth to the bowling, they have the experience of Ishant and Irfan Pathan; while newcomers Moises Henriques, Jason Holder, Ricky Bhui, Ashish Reddy and Manpreet Juneja will bring variety with their all-rounder skills. While Dhawan, Finch and Warner will look to provide a solid foundation in the top-order, Sammy and youngsters like Naman Ojha, Venugopal Rao and Juneja will steady the middle-order. The captain will need to strategize well and use the excellent resources to the team’s advantage here.
The Royals have always used the advantage of playing on home turf to dominate their opponents in the previous seasons; however, with the first part of the league being played overseas, the youngsters will have to prove their abilities away from home. Shane Watson will be eager to lead the team from the front and with players like Ajinkya Rahane, Stuart Binny, Unmukt Chand and Sanju Samson on his side, the Royals look positive to make a comeback this season after the terrible controversies that loomed over them last year. James Faulkner and Tim Southee have been in pretty good shape recently and will provide a good left-right combination in bowling. Brad Hodge brings his experience to the table and can help Watson guide the young team; Pravin Tambe is a useful resource who brings depth to the bowling attack. Overall, the team spirit of the Royals compensates for some of the weaknesses in the bowling department; with hard hitters like Watson, Hodge and the all-rounder Faulkner, the team looks forward to starting the campaign on a positive note.
While the Royals have a younger and less experienced team than the Sunrisers, they are a more cohesive unit, who are eager to prove their abilities on foreign shores; on the other hand, team Hyderabad is upbeat with the inclusion of proven match-winners and is looking positive to dominate right from the start. Though the match could swing either way, Sunrisers look better placed to score a win in their opening encounter on Friday.
