About the Match
The Sunrisers have worked hard to win their last three matches and have moved up the table to the 4th position with 6 points; they will now take on Supergiants, who have been on a string of losses ever since their win in the opening game against Mumbai Indians, on 26th April at Hyderabad. Sunrisers defeated Kings XI recently by 5 wickets whereas Supergiants suffered defeat at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders by 2 wickets; the visitors seek a much-needed victory here but it needs to be seen if they can stop the winning spree of Sunrisers here on Tuesday.
Shikhar Dhawan has bounced back into form and this is a good sign for the hosts as they take on the Dhoni-led team on Tuesday; his 45 off 44 along with Warner’s 59 from 31 balls helped the team chase down 144 with ease against Kings XI. Eoin Morgan contributed with 25 off 20 and earlier, the bowlers put up a good show to restrict the opposition to a low total. Mustafizur Rahman was brilliant with 2-9 while Moises Henriques and B Kumar claimed 3 wickets between them.
They also put a halt to the unstoppable Lions in the previous game last week by defeating them emphatically by 10 wickets; Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s 4-wicket haul demolished the opposition while Sran, Rahman, Hooda and Bipul Sharma took a wicket each at regular pace to restrict them to 135. Warner’s special 74 off 48 and Dhawan’s 53 from 41 took the team safely to victory without any loss.
They are a determined unit and have overcome weaknesses to win their last 3 matches; with the home advantage, Sunrisers surely will come out all guns blazing yet again
Rising Pune Supergiants
Rahane’s well-made 67 from 52 went in vain against KKR as the bowlers found it difficult to contain the opponents from chasing down 161 runs, despite a good show by Bhatia, who took 2-19 from his 4 overs. Perera and M Ashwin took 3 wickets between them and although Morkel also dismissed 2 batsmen, he ended up being the most expensive of the lot. Ravichandran Ashwin has not been very successful till now and will need to spin something special in the upcoming games.
Against RCB, except Perera who took 3-34, all others went wicketless and ended up facing a 186-run target; Faf du Plessis and Smith failed to fire while Pietersen had to retire hurt. Rahane was the lone fighter at the top order and his well-made 60 showed some sign of recovery. Dhoni, Perera and Bhatia combined well to keep the scoreboard ticking but they fell short by a mere 13 runs.
Their only win has been against Mumbai Indians in the opener of the tournament wherein an all-round show by batsmen and bowlers helped them clinch victory by 9 wickets. Bhatia, M Marsh and RP Singh are doing well with pace while Murugan Ashwin has been a revelation with his spin attack. Experienced bowlers like Morkel, R Ashwin and Ishant Sharma need to put up a more disciplined effort whereas the batting line-up needs to put its best foot forward if they want to win on Tuesday.
Supergiants are down at the moment but they do have the resources to make a comeback; Sunrisers, on the other hand, have kept their winning momentum going and will be eager to continue with their good performance. Although the contest could go down to the wire, we feel Rising Pune Supergiants will emerge victorious in this all-important encounter
