About the Match
Sunrisers currently occupy the 5th position with 6 points and will take on Royal Challengers, who are in the 7th place with only 4 points, in the upcoming game on 30th April at Hyderabad. Although Sunrisers were outsmarted by Supergiants in the last game, they have done well to play to their strengths and climb up the ladder; on the other hand, RCB, despite having the best batting line-up in the IPL, have failed to convert their good efforts into wins and will need to win this match here. It needs to be seen which one of them keeps a cool head above its shoulders to outwit the other.
They are the only team to have defeated Gujarat Lions till now and have put up a much better performance than their previous editions of the IPL; their win against Kings XI came after the batsmen successfully chased down 144 runs with 13 balls to spare thanks to a superb opening stand of 90 between Warner and Dhawan. Earlier, bowlers Mustafizur Rahman and Moises Henriques took 2 wickets each while B Kumar took a wicket to restrict the opponent to 143.
However, they lost the match against Supergiants despite having the home advantage; Dhawan, who has recently bounced back to form was the lone batsmen in the top and middle order to score a double-digit figure. His well-made 56 was not enough to give them a good total with hardly any support from the others. Although B Kumar, Henriques and Nehra took a wicket each, they couldn’t stop from losing the match by 34 runs D/L method.
When they had met RCB previously, the bowlers had struggled to contain the hard-hitting Bangalore batsmen; chasing 228 runs, the batting line-up had collapsed to 182. This time, they are a much better prepared unit and we will surely see them come out all guns blazing on home turf.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
They had comprehensively defeated Sunrisers the last time they met after putting up a challenging total of 227 runs batting first; bowlers Watson and Chahal took 2 wickets each to stifle the opposition while Parvez Rasool and Adam Milne took a wicket each to help secure a win by 45 runs. The batsmen had come out all guns blazing with Kohli and AB de Villiers posting a 157-run partnership for the 2nd wicket. The duo has been excellent form and along with Watson and Sarfaraz Khan, RCB looks to be a formidable force to reckon with.
In their previous game against Supergiants, Kohli and AB de Villiers posted a 155-run stand for the 2nd wicket to take the total to 185 and the bowlers led by Richardson’s brilliant spell of 3-13 caused havoc on the opponents. Watson and Shamsi took 3 wickets to stifle the opponents and help win the match by 13 runs.
They have the best batting line-up among all the teams this season and with a variety of bowlers in both pace and spin, RCB can post a tough challenge to Sunrisers on Saturday and try to go back to its winning ways.
Sunrisers have the home advantage and they have done well to climb up the table; however, RCB is desperate for a win here and they come with the psychological advantage of having defeated Sunrisers earlier. The contest could go down to the wire but we feel RCB is better placed to win
