SUR vs GLA Match Prediction - May 27, 2022

We are just about in the beginning of the Vitality T20 Blast 2022 and there has been an exhibition of some exceptional individual performances already. In their first match of the tournament, Glamorgan are in with a chance at the moment and will be looking for change in their fortunes before they move ahead to play their second fixture.

Glamorgan are set to play two matches on consecutive days with their match against Sussex to be followed by the one against Surrey. Surrey have not featured in the competition yet and will be looking to open their account with a win in their first match.

The T20 Blast match between Surrey and Glamorgan is to be played on 27th May 2022 at The Oval Cricket Ground, London.

SUR vs GLA Team Previews

Surrey

Surrey have always been one of the most star-studded sides in the T20 Blast and their consistent performances justifies that as well. They were caught off-guard when Vikram Solanki took charge of Gujarat Titans in IPL, but should not be too concerned given how they have done in recent times, especially at the Oval.

With some of the proven T20 performers in Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard, Jason Roy, and Sam Curran available, Surrey are certainly not short on experience. With all aforementioned players capable of clearing the grounds at will, they are neither short on firepower. In addition, they have the likes of Laurie Evan and Will Jacks available at the top, who both were remarkably good in the last season.

On the bowling front as well, they have Chris Jordan, Jamie Overton, and Gus Atkinson available in the fast-bowling department. With Sunil Narine, Dan Moriarty, and Sam Curran available too, they are neither short on talent nor on options.

All in all, Surrey seems to be having all their bases covered, at least on paper. It would take a mighty effort from any bowling attack to take the steam out of their batting, which has power-hitters available right throughout. Having said that, they might be a bit rusty coming into their first match and that is one area that could be exploited by Glamorgan. If they aren't able to do so, Surrey could prove to be a very difficult side to get past.

Glamorgan

Glamorgan have been one of the worst-performing sides in the recent history of the T20 Blast and it's a bit surprising given the number of T20 specialists they have had. However, they have started off on a positive note this year as they were in a decent position in their match against Sussex at the time of writing.

Managing to restrict Sussex to a total of just 150, their bowlers certainly displayed a commendable effort. They got off to a reasonable start with the bat as well and were certainly ahead in the game five overs into the second innings.

Glamorgan once used to be a T20 powerhouse, more precisely between 2014 and 2018, but then slowly their form tapered off in this format as well. They were particularly disappointing in the last season as they managed to win only three matches out of a total of 14. Barring Marnus Labuschagne's regular contributions, Glamorgan were always behind the eight-ball as far as batting was concerned.

With some excellent signings this year, Glamorgan are certainly looking a lot better team. Sam Northeast is immediately leaving a good impression, stringing an important partnership with Marnus Labuschagne in their quest to chase down the total against Sussex in the first match. With the likes of David Llyod and Colin Ingram as well, Glamorgan certainly do have a buffed up batting unit. Having said that, they still lack a power-hitter in their lower order and that could be a concern if things go down to the wire.

On the bowling front, they look to be having a decent unit and hence it proved in their opening game too. Michael Hogan was never the first-choice pick for them, but thanks to injuries to their key bowlers, he made it to the side and played a pivotal role against Sussex. He picked up three wickets for not many and helped them restrict Sussex to a total of 150. Apart from him, they have Michael Neser, Prem Sisodiya, and Dan Douthwaite who all are proven performers in this format.

All in all, Glamorgan do look a lot better than their last year's counterpart and should do better too. Regardless of the outcome that follows, they are having a decent outcome in their first match against Sussex and should be looking to continue to build on the momentum. If they are able to play to the on-paper potential they have, getting past them could prove to be very difficult.

David Lloyd, Sam Northeast, Marnus Labuschagne, Kiran Carlson, Chris Cooke, Joe Cooke, Daniel Douthwaite, Michael Neser, James Weighell, Prem Sisodiya, Michael Hogan.

SUR vs GLA Betting Tips

This is a match between two sides that have had contrasting runs in recent times. While Surrey have enjoyed success more often than not, Glamorgan have struggled to rack wins under their belt. With Glamorgan getting off to a decent start, they will be a lot more confident unit. Having said that, Surrey are undoubtedly a better-balanced side that has more experience and is playing at home. Considering that and despite the fact that they could be rusty first-up, we would be placing our money on a Surrey win and so should you.
