Surrey is having a terrible time in the T20 Blast 2019 season. It has one of the highest-paid rosters on the county circuit and is filled with a lot of international players but it has just been able to win one match out of the seven it has played so far.
Gloucestershire is not doing too much better with two wins from its seven matches but it also has points from two rained out matches which Surrey does not. There are still seven matches to go for both teams but the task in front of Surrey is becoming more difficult by the day.
Surrey vs Gloucestershire is going to be played at the Kennington Oval, London, on the 9th of August 2019.
A Surrey bowling attack comprising of players like Imran Tahir, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Gareth Batty, and Jade Dernbach was not enough to stop Middlesex form scoring 210 in their 20 overs. To be fair to Surrey, though, there are not too many bowlers in the world that would have stood a chance against AB de Villiers and Eoin Morgan teeing off together.
We really like this Surrey bowling attack even if it was plastered to all parts of the ground just a few hours ago. The inherent quality of the bowlers is beyond doubt and we think they could come back very strongly against Gloucestershire.
Tom Curran and Imran Tahir are our two bowlers to watch out for but really, there are no weak bowlers in the Surrey bowling lineup.
Aaron Finch and Sam Curran played a good hand in the match against Middlesex. There was hope for Surrey up until both of them were at the crease after which the scoreboard pressure became too much.
Maybe Surrey could have played Ben Foakes a bit higher up the order instead of trying to send pinch hitters one after the other but they are unlikely to make the same mistake against Gloucestershire. There is enough batting in Surrey to be able to give the Gloucestershire bowlers a very tough time.
Aaron Finch, Will Jacks, Sam Curran, Ollie Pope, Ben Foakes, Tom Curran, Jordan Clark, Ryan Patel, Jade Dernbach, Gareth Batty, Imran Tahir.
An excellent win against Kent, one of the top sides of the South Group at the moment, would have given a lot of confidence to Gloucestershire. They have been quite poor in the T20 Blast as well. Unlike Surrey, though, we don’t think they have the kind of players in the side needed to pull off a late charge.
The Gloucestershire batting lineup is quite weak compared to Surrey. Miles Hammond, Ian Cockbain, James Bracey, and Ryan Higgins are not quite a frightening bunch to come up against. The current form of Michael Klinger makes him a liability and we think it is time for him to move on from the game altogether.
Benny Howell and Andrew Tye are the leading T20 specialist bowlers in the side. They bowled quite well against Kent as did the others but repeating the same against a much stronger Surrey batting lineup is going to be difficult.
The one thing that Gloucestershire has in its favor is the fact that Surrey is low on confidence and its batting has been suffering. A couple of early wickets could bring the Gloucestershire bowlers strongly into the game.
MAH Hammond, M Klinger, JR Bracey, IA Cockbain, JW Taylor, Benny Howell, AJ Tye, Tom Smith, CJ Liddle, DA Payne, Ryan Higgins.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first with all the rain around.

Surrey vs Gloucestershire is going to be played at the Kennington Oval, London. There is almost a 30-40% chance of light rain forecast in London around the time that the match is about to start. We could have a rain delay or even a washout if we are not lucky.
The pitch at the Oval is one of the flattest in the country and we will have a high-scoring match if we get the chance to play. The surface is going to be good for batsmen with some help in it for the spinners as well.
Gloucestershire may have won its previous match against Kent and be in a better position on the table than Surrey but we don’t think it is a better team by any measure. Surrey should be able to come hard at them and win this match.
Bet on Surrey to win.
