Surrey

In the first game of the competition, the Surrey team took on Middlesex. The contest was involved in a lot of hype but this London Derby ended up being a one-sided game. Surrey managed to brush aside the Middlesex challenge by 73 runs in a game played at the Lord's yesterday.

The stand-in skipper Sam Curran together with Tom Curran scored fifties for Surrey. Will Jacks also contributed to the team's cause by providing an all-round effort. It was a pretty much flawless performance from the Surrey cricketers right after they won the toss and decided to bat first.

Jacks went after the Middlesex bowling right from the word go and after that we saw a 118-run stand between the Curran brothers that pretty much took the game away from the Middlesex team. It was a good batting surface available at Lord's with an extremely short boundary available at one end. Tom Heim provided a crafty bowling display towards the end that stopped Surrey from reaching the 200-run mark.

However, these batters mentioned above had already done the damage and it was not going to be easy to chase this target on Lord's wicket.

The Middlesex chase could never get off although we saw some good cameos from Max Holden and Pieter Malan that provided wonderful entertainment for a short while. But once the spin bowling attack was introduced, the Middlesex inning slipped away quickly in a flash.

The double strike provided by Jack in his first over ended any hopes Middlesex had of getting close to the target. Other batters just caved in and the game in the end was an easy finish for Surrey. Surrey scored 199 runs from their 20 overs for the loss of 6 wickets while Middlesex were bowled out for 126 runs in 14.5 overs. 

Kent

After registering an emphatic win yesterday in front of thousands of spectators, the Kent club is asking the supporters to visit the South London for the Surrey vs Kent game. Every year the Kent Day is celebrated on 26th May. This is the Feast Day of St. Augustine. Kent vs Surrey is one of the oldest rivalries in the world of cricket.

After the inception of a T20 competition in 2003, Surrey and Kent have pretty much shared the honors in head-to-head. In case Kent wins both the games to be played this year, they will be even stevens with Surrey.

In their first game of the season against Gloucestershire, Kent recorded an emphatic win. Batting first, Gloucestershire scored 113 runs all out from their quota of overs. The Kent batters chased down this modest total easily while losing just 3 wickets in the process.

They made a short work of this target as they crossed the line in 13.3 overs. The Kent bowling attack during the Gloucestershire innings was led by Michael Hogan who picked up 3 wickets for 13 runs from his 3 overs. Jack Leaning, Kane Richardson, and Grant Stewart picked up a couple of scalps each.

During the Kent chase, Tom Smith was the only successful bowler for Gloucestershire picking up 3 wickets for 22 runs from his 4 overs. He did pick an early wicket of Tawanda Muyeye during the Kent inning but there was a brief partnership between Daniel Bell-Drummond and Joe Denly after that.

This partnership ensured that there were no hiccups during the Kent inning. Jordan Cox hit some lusty blows towards the end of the inning scoring 38 runs from 17 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes to finish the innings in style.
