The Oval is all set to be on fire as the fans are about to witness the first London Derby in this year's Vitality T20 Blast with Middlesex taking on Surrey. The two teams are coming off from contrasting results in their respective previous matches, albeit against the same team. While Middlesex registered a massive win over Essex Eagles, Surrey were blasted away by a brilliant ton from Cameron Delport. The match between the two sides is set to be played on the evening of Tuesday, 23rd July at Kennington Oval, London. With so many stars playing in this game, the tickets for this match have already been sold out. This battle between Middlesex and Surrey will mark the presence of Aaron Finch, Imran Tahir, and AB de Villiers on Tuesday. Although these are still early days in Vitality T20 Blast, both the teams are expected to strive hard to get the two points. Considering that and the fact that it is the occasion of London Derby, we expect a mouth-watering contest between the two sides.
While Surrey depend heavily on Aaron Finch to deal the damage with the bat, it was their bowling which got wreaked and contributed to their embarrassing defeat. Surrey depend heavily on their international players - the Curran brothers, Jason Roy, and Aaron Finch. With Jason Roy and Sam Curran selected to represent England for Ireland test, Surrey have been hit pretty hard. They've, however, called up Rory Burns and Ollie Pope to strengthen their batting lineup.
In their first match of the tournament, against Essex Eagles, they were blasted away by a scintillating Cameron Delport ton as they conceded 226 runs in just 15 overs. Chasing the total, they ended up scoring 172 but still fell short by a massive margin of 52-runs.
Despite the loss, they had plenty of positives to take home. Aaron Finch blasted a quick-fire 40 off 19 deliveries, but his innings was cut short in a bid to score too many runs too quickly. Their bowling, however, would need plenty of improvement from all their bowlers. With his bowling style more suited to the Oval, Imran Tahir will be hoping to make a difference in this upcoming fixture.
Aaron Finch, Will Jacks, Mark Stoneman, Ollie Pope, Rikki Clarke, Tom Curran, Jordan Clark, LE Plunkett, Gareth Batty, Jade Dernbach, Imran Tahir.
The fans were in for an AB de Villiers special when Middlesex got off to a flying start in Vitality T20 Blast. In their first match, Middlesex chased down a modest total of 164-runs, set by Essex Eagles, with considerable ease as AB de Villiers slammed an unbeaten 88 off just 43 deliveries and took his side to a win with seven wickets in hand and three overs to spare.
With Ireland set to play against England in a one-off test, Middlesex are likely to miss the services of Paul Stirling and Tim Murtagh, both of whom have been in superb form. Just like Surrey, Middlesex, too, have been hurt by the absence of a couple of their batting stalwarts, in Paul Stirling and Eoin Morgan.
All in all, Middlesex are a strong side with excellent potency available in both the departments. With Morgan absent, however, the onus on AB de Villiers is further increased. Mujeeb ur Rahman was brilliant for the Afghans in the recently concluded Cricket World Cup as well as in the opening game for Middlesex, and his performance is likely to set the tone for them, as far as their bowling is concerned.
Stephen Eskinazi, Dawid Malan, Nick Gubbins, AB de Villiers, John Simpson, George Scott, Toby Roland-Jones, Thomas Helm, Nathan Sowter, ST Finn, Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
Check the Dream11 Fantasy lineup for the Vitality T20 Blast match between Surrey and Middlesex:
The two sides are coming off contrasting starts, and they both will be itching to win the upcoming encounter, Middlesex to keep their winning run going and Surrey to get back to the winning ways. Surrey have a history of bouncing back hard after a defeat and should not be taken lightly, especially in home conditions. While Surrey have explosive players right through their batting lineup, Middlesex are a little too over-reliant on AB de Villiers and Dawid Malan. Considering that and the fact that Surrey are playing at their home ground, we think that Surrey are better-placed to win the upcoming encounter in London.
