About the Match
We are about to witness an important South Division fixture in Friends Life T20 as two former champions are set to lock horns. This match between Surrey Lions and Sussex Sharks would be played on 3rd July 2013 at The Oval at 17:30 GMT. It would be familiar battle as the above two teams have already played a game against each other at Hove in which the Lions emerged victorious by just 10 runs. The Lions are currently sitting comfortably at the top of the table in South Division and a win would only strengthen their position. A win for Sharks would take them to the first position shared with their opponents in this game.
Surrey Lions :
The IPLs Million Dollar Boy, Glenn Maxwell would be available to play in this fixture. Surrey would be hoping for Ricky Ponting to get fit for this game as experience can play a vital role in an important game like this. Jade Dernbach has proved to be a trump card for them since his comeback and looks to be in excellent touch. The all-round abilities of Zander de Bruyn and Azhar Mahmood strengthen their team balance even further. They are coming into this game after a brilliant victory against Kent in which they first hammered Kent bowlers to all parts to score a massive total of 176 and then restricted them to just 145 to claim the game. The Lions are in stupendous form and it would be difficult for Sharks to stop them from winning.
Sussex would be enjoying the return of Rory Hamilton-Brown as he is set to cement his return into the side. He already proved his worth in the previous game they played against Surrey as he scored 34 runs in quick time. The Sharks have arguably the heaviest of top six with players like Dwayne Smith, Luke Wright, Chris Nash, Scott Styris and the return of Rory Hamilton-Brown and Chris Jordan makes it even stronger. Their bowling lineup has very capable players in Chris Liddle and Dwayne Smith who can trouble even world class batsmen. With the availability of fine all-rounders, they bat deep and have plenty of options in the bowling too. With excellent batting order, it would be really tough for Surrey bowlers to stop them on a good batting surface.
The Lions and Sharks have been up against 20 T20 matches so far and 19 of them have yielded result. The head to head record is pretty even with Sussex winning 10 out of those. Surrey would be looking to make things exactly equal in this game, but can they repeat the result of the game that was played between the same teams a few days ago? They certainly have the capability of doing it with players like Glenn Maxwell and Azhar Mahmood in their squad. However, Sussex Sharks has one of the best top-order and it would be tough to bowl to them on a good surface. The Oval might just be the kind of pitch the Sharks would be looking for and I expect them to win this game.
