The Essex Eagles are the defending champions of the T20 Blast but such is the quality of the competition that they have failed to win a single game this season. There really is not too much difference between the teams and so current form plays a massive role.
Essex’s opponent in this match has no such problems. Sussex sits at the top of the South group standings with four wins from its five completed matches. Some big names are missing from the Sussex team but that does not seem to have made much of a difference. It also shows the depth and quality of the squad.
Can the Sussex Sharks continue their winning form against the Essex Eagles? L:et’s find out.
Sussex vs Essex T20 Blast 2020 is going to be played at the County Ground, Hove on the 14th of September 2020.
Sussex lost the services of Phil Salt, who is with the English team as a reserve, but Callum MacLeod seemed to be an excellent replacement. His partnership with Luke Wright at the top of the order was worth 63 runs in just 6.2 overs.
Sussex has a very strong batting lineup led by Luke Wright, Delray Rawlins, Callum MacLeod, Ravi Bopara, and David Wiese. Chris Jordan has joined the squad now that he is done with his T20 commitments for England and that is a huge boost.
It was not too long back that Jordan was being rated as the best T20 bowler to ever play for England. He is a pretty good batsman at this level of cricket as well. Considering the form and the depth of the batting, Sussex is definitely the stronger team in this contest.
The bowling is also very good. Delray Rawlins is contributing in both aspects of the game and has been a genuine bowling option for Sussex. Tymal Mills, Chris Jordan, and ollie Robinson make the Sussex attack very dangerous indeed.
They seem to have most bases covered and are in some excellent form coming into this game.
Luke Wright, Aaron Thomason, Calum MacLeod, Delray Rawlins, D Wiese, RS Bopara, George Garton, Ben Brown, Ollie Robinson, Danny Briggs, Tymal Mills.
What can Essex do to turn around this horror run of form that they have been having? They have lost every single completed match and are struggling to be competitive. Cameron Delport and Adam Wheater played very well in the previous match. They both scored 60 plus scores and combined for a 100 plus partnership inside 9 overs.
Unfortunately, once these two got out there was not much resistance from the other Essex batsmen.
That has been the case for the Essex team this season of the T20 Blast.
Daniel Lawrence, Ryan ten Doeschate, and the others need to step up if they want to give Essex a chance in this next match.
Simon Harmer can lay claim to being the best off-spinner in the country at the moment. He is so good that most teams are playing him out and attacking the rest of the Essex bowling. Samuel Cook, Aron Nijjar, and Aaron Beard have been below par in the T20 Blast so far.
They have been expensive and not been able to pick up wickets during the key phases of the matches.
Essex is really up against it in this match against Sussex.
C Delport, Tom Westley, Daniel Lawrence, Micheal Pepper, RN ten Doeschate, Paul Walter, SR Harmer, Matthew Quinn, Jack Plom, Aron Nijjar, Samuel Cook.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first.

A perfectly sunny day is forecast in Hove for this match. That is great news and should allow us to enjoy an uninterrupted contest. The conditions in Hove are always tilted towards the batsmen. That should help Surrey who not only have a stronger batting lineup but a bowling attack that can be difficult to hit at the death.
A score of around 180 is going to be the least that teams batting first aim for.
We do not see the misery ending for Essex just yet. They are up against one of the strongest teams in the entire T20 Blast and are coming in with a terrible run of form. Sussex can be difficult to beat even on the best of days and it is just not easy to see Essex being able to improve their game to that level so quickly.
Bet on Sussex to win.
