SUS vs GLA Match Prediction - May 26, 2022

The beauty of T20 Blast is that it throws up all kinds of known match-ups and still leaves plenty of room for uncertainty. We have seen underdogs not only defeating the title-favorites in the league matches, but also eventually going on to win the title. There have been cases of sides not living up to their on-paper potential and also the sides punching well above their weight. The 2022 edition of the tournament is already underway and we have seen some well-fought matches already.

Up next in the tournament, Sussex are set to take on Glamorgan in a match that will be important for both these sides for contrasting reasons. Sussex have been one of the most consistent sides of the competition whereas Glamorgan have consistently struggled to do well. They will want this to be their year and will likely be coming all guns blazing and Sussex, who have a rather settled unit.

The Vitality T20 Blast 2022 match between Sussex and Glamorgan is to be played on the evening of Thursday, 26th May 2022 at the County Ground, Hove. We expect this match to be a lot closer than what it looks like on-paper.

SUS vs GLA Team Previews

Sussex

When available at their full-strength, Sussex have one of the better-balanced side in the competition. Rashid Khan, although unavailable for the first match, adds to their balance lower down the order whereas the presence of several other all-rounders in the middle add to their strength.

In this upcoming match, Sussex will likely have their strengths concentrated at the top with Josh Phillipe and Mohammad Rizwan likely to open for them. With the likes of Luke Wright, Ravi Bopara, and Tom Aslop to follow, Sussex have a middle-order as good as any. With Khan being unavailable, their bowling does look a bit vulnerable. They certainly do depend heavily on Mills and Finn to do the business in the powerplay as well as in the slog overs.

Overall, Sussex have a decent side but the unavailability of Rashid Khan certainly leaves a big void. They have an exceptional batting unit but will hope their bowlers will step-up their game as soon as possible. If that happens, Sussex will be a very difficult side to get past, not only in this upcoming match but also in the matches to follow.

Sussex Playing 11

Luke Wright, Mohammad Rizwan, Josh Philippe, Ravi Bopara, Delray Rawlins, George Garton, Harrison Ward, Will Beer, Tymal Mills, Archie Lenham, ST Finn.

Glamorgan

Glamorgan have been one of the most under-performing sides in the competition, highlighted by the fact that they have not qualified for the knockouts since 2017. They have three difficult assignments at the beginning of their campaign and a couple of wins in the first three matches should help them get on the track they so desperately want to be on.

With Timm van der Gugten, Eddie Byrom, and Ruaidhri Smith injured, Glamorgan will start on the backfoot as far as their team combination is concerned. To add to that, David Llyod, their skipper, has not played competitive cricket for a while now and might take a while to get that rustiness off. The good thing though is that they have Marnus Labuschagne available right from the very first match and his availability could prove to be a big boost, especially given the kind of form he showed in the last season.

They also have the likes of Colin Ingram and Sam Northeast to add to the strength in the batting unit. While their bowling does look a little weak with van der Gugten absent, their batting seems to have enough firepower to cover for it. Having said that, this is the first game of the tournament and they would not want any slip-ups in any department. If they are able to do that, Glamorgan should be able to get off to a solid start in their campaign to turn things around after several disappointing seasons.

David Lloyd, Sam Northeast, Marnus Labuschagne, Kiran Carlson, Chris Cooke, Joe Cooke, Daniel Douthwaite, Michael Neser, James Weighell, Prem Sisodiya, Michael Hogan.

SUS vs GLA Betting Tips

Considering that Glamorgan have not done well since the last five years, they will be under immense pressure to get things off to a favorable start. Having said that, the pressure of expectations will be on Sussex, who go in the match as favorites on all accounts. With multiple proven T20 performers available right throughout, they have a better-balanced side between the two, at least on paper. They are also playing this game at their home turf and that too should add to their advantage. We expect the match to progress more on the expected lines and a bet on Sussex should be the way to go here. Back Sussex to win.
