Both Gloucestershire and Sussex have lost just one match each in this edition of the Vitality Blast. That's pretty amazing and has left them both in the top half of the table. While Gloucestershire sits top of the pile right now, Sussex could overtake it with a win in this match. T20 superstars in both sides have provided match-winning performances so far making for some very exciting potential matchups. Sussex and Gloucestershire are in excellent for right now and this promises to be a really close match.
It has been a while since Sussex played its last completed match in the Vitality Blast 2018 and that can sometimes threaten to take the momentum away from sides. Thankfully, though, Sussex has players that are brilliant at T20 cricket and have made it their specialty to be ready to fire at a moments notice.
We are referring to the likes of Luke Wright and Jofra Archer in this case, both of whom are gifted T20 cricketers. These two will be the players that get the most attention from the opposition now that Rashid Khan is not going to be available any longer.
Wright has got some good scores while Archer is being his brilliant self with the ball.
Players like Bruce, Evans, Salt, and Jordan are all very good players as well and should not be ignored by the opposition. Sussex is easily one of the best T20 sides in this competition and is playing to its potential right now.
We would personally like to see them use Bruce and Wiese a bit more in the batting side of things but messing about with something that is working is not something T20 teams tend to do. It will be interesting to see how Sussex coped with the loss of Rashid Khan and whether Tymal Mills can find a regular place in the starting eleven.
Philip Salt, LJ Wright, Laurie Evans, Tom Bruce, Michael Burgess , D Wiese, Jofra Chioke Archer, Chris Jordan, Rashid Khan, Danny Briggs, TS Mills.
Led by the evergreen Michael Klinger, Gloucestershire continues to punch above its weight in T20 cricket. We don’t think that this Gloucestershire side is the strongest in the competition or has the biggest names or the most talented youngsters. The different parts still seem to come together beautifully to become more than the sum of the individuals.
The runs are being provided by Klinger, Cockbain, Taylor, Higgins, and Hammond right now. There is impressive depth in the side and consistent contributions from more than one player in the side but only Klinger and Higgins have recorded fifties so far.
Andrew Tye has been excellent in his three matches, picking up 7 wickets and proving once again that is probably the best wicket taker in T20 cricket at the moment. With Howell, Higgins, Smith, and Payne in the side as well, Gloucestershire has a very decent bowling lineup.
The contests between Tye and Wright or Higgins vs Archer promise to be among the highlights of the tournament. Gloucestershire will know that it has got off to a good start in the tournament but a win against a side like Sussex will go a long way in helping them reach the goal of making their knockouts.
MAH Hammond, M Klinger, IA Cockbain, Benny Howell, Ryan Higgins, KN Barnett, JW Taylor, AJ Tye, GH Roderick, Tom Smith, DA Payne.
The team winning the toss is likely to field first
An excellent sunny day with very little chance of rain has been forecast for match day. This means that we should finally be able to see Sussex on the field after a long while. The rain would have freshened up the pitch somewhat and the break would have allowed the groundsman to roll it nice and hard.
We think there will be some help for the fast bowlers but plenty of runs in it as well.
A score of around 180 should be considered par.
Sussex has beaten Gloucestershire in three out of the last five matches that they have played against each other. We are, however, backing the away side in this game thanks to a more consistent batting unit and the in-form Tye on its side.
Back Gloucestershire to win.
