Surrey finally managed to win its first match of the T20 Blast 2019 after an absolutely brilliant bowling performance against Glamorgan. There is no time for them to rest on their laurels, though, as the matches come thick and fast in the T20 Blast.
Surrey is now going to play its second match within 25 hours and be hoping to continue its winning streak. With just one win from its three matches so far, Surrey needs to get on a bit of a roll.
Sussex is one of the strongest teams in this year’s tournament and they will be playing their third game of the tournament. They have one win and one rained out game so far, so they are unbeaten in the T20 Blast 2019 so far.
Sussex vs Surrey T20 Blast 2019 is going to be played at the County Ground, Hove, on the 26th of July 2019.
An excellent batting performance from Sussex formed the base of their victory. Runs for Phil Salt, who top-scored with 73 runs from 46 balls, David Wiese, and starts for almost everyone else that came to crease meant that Sussex ended up with 188 runs on the board.
That is a big target against any team but twice as hard against the strong Sussex bowling.
Rashid Khan, David Wiese, Reece Topley, and Tymal Mills were testes against Hampshire but they eventually prevailed. Surrey’s batting has been quite disappointing in the tournament up until now and Sussex’s bowling attack should be quite confident of being able to bundle them out for a low score.
There is some rain around and spinners could have a tough time finding grip if the outfield becomes wet. This increases the pressure on the Sussex fast bowlers to provide the needed breakthroughs.
Philip Salt, LJ Wright, Laurie Evans, Delray Rawlins, D Wiese, Ben Brown, Rashid Khan, Jofra Chioke Archer, Danny Briggs, R Topley, TS Mills.
Tom Curran took a hat-trick in his first over and led a brilliant bowling performance from Surrey. Defending a total of 141 is not easy in the T20 Blast but Surrey ended up winning by close to 100 runs thanks to its bowlers.
Tom Curran, Imran Tahir, and Gareth Batty all took three wickets for hardly any runs. Jade Dernbach took the last remaining wicket to fall.
Bowling out an opponent for just 44 runs is not too common in T20 cricket and we are sure that the bowling attack will be chuffed going up against Sussex.
A potentially wet outfield is going to make life difficult for Imran Tahir and Gareth Batty, though, so Surrey might have a lot more work to do against the strong Sussex batting.
Surrey's own batting has been poor. Aaron Finch and Will Jacks got off to a start but were unable to convert that into a meaningful score. Ollie Pope scored runs in the previous match but he fell short this time.
There are some very good players in the Surrey side but they need to start performing as a unit and getting some runs on the board.
Will Jacks, Aaron Finch, Mark Stoneman, Ollie Pope, Rikki Clarke, Tom Curran, Jordan Clark, Ryan Patel, Jade Dernbach, Gareth Batty, Imran Tahir.
The team that wins the toss is likely to want to field first. There is rain around and we are going to have a DLS affected match in all likelihood.

Sussex vs Surrey T20 Blast 2019 is going to be played at the County Ground, Hove. The weather forecast for the match is not very good. There is rain predicted in Hove starting in the evening and the continuing late into the night.
We will be lucky if we are able to get a full game or even a shortened game-in.
The pitch at Hove is usually good for batting with some help in it for the fast bowlers. We are not sure how much of the pitch will actually get used in this match but expect a balanced game if we do get the opportunity to watch some cricket.
Sussex is a very good T20 team, in good form, and is playing at home. It has the bowling to be able to take advantage of a Surry batting that has been faltering in recent times.
Bet on Sussex to win.
