About the Match
Sussex will start their Natwest T20 Blast campaign on Sunday, 9th July 2017 with the hopes of qualifying for the semifinals, something which they failed to achieve last year. They'll take on Glamorgan, who lost their first match against Hampshire, at Arundel Castle, Arundel. Glamorgan was one of the better sides last year as they won eight out of their fourteen matches and finished second after the group stage. Glamorgan lost to Yorkshire in the quarterfinal held at Cardiff.
Despite Surrey being the fastest scoring side in the last season, they finished sixth on the points table, just behind Surrey. However, they have much-improved bowling lineup with the likes of Tymal Mills, Chris Jordan, and Jofra Chioke Archer.
The experienced Ross Taylor has been appointed as the captain of the side which already has loads of experience with Danny Briggs, Chris Jordan and Luke Wright in the squad. Luke Wright is a T20 specialist and plays the shortest format of the game all around the globe and has been pretty successful.
With improved bowling and experienced batting, Sussex looks to be an improved side with realistic chances of qualifying for the knockouts. The experience of Taylor, Briggs, and Wright could be handy in the first match of the competition. David Wiese too could be useful with his all-around skills and help Sussex turn the tables in this edition of Natwest T20 Blast.
Exactly opposite to Surrey, Glamorgan was the team with one of the best economy rates of the competition. The likes of Marchant de Lange, Michael Hogan, and Craig Meschede are known to deliver when the odds are against them. Timm van der Gugten was their pick of the bowlers as he single-handedly won them a couple of matches last yeat.
Jacques Rudolph is an experienced player who's been playing in England for a while now is going to stay as their captain. Colin Ingram's hitting abilities might come in handy in quest of quick runs.
Overall, Glamorgan's batting looks to be a little brittle with not many players having International experience. Having said that, there's no lack of talent and can win be the vital elements of the team. It would be interesting to see how Rudolph uses his bowlers against a team who loves to score quickly.
With one team the fastest scoring team and the other being the team with the best economy rate, it certainly promises to be a thrilling match. Sussex have a strong, balanced side with stalwarts in batting as well as bowling whereas Glamorgan is the side that features quality bowlers with the ability to bowl in any scenario. Sussex has a better-balanced side coupled with the home advantage which makes them our pick to win this game
