About the Match
The bottom two teams, Sussex and Kent, lock horns on Saturday in a quest to rise up the rankings in South Group table. Sussex had a similar fate to Kent prior to their game against Hampshire. A win in their previous drew them closer to Kent who are one place above Sussex with as many points. Although Kent has won a game extra, their losses in three other games haven't helped them. However, a couple of no result matches for Sussex has brought them closer to Kent despite one win less.
After four winless games, Sussex finally registered a win against Hampshire. Losing the toss and chasing first, Sussex bowlers bowled well to restrict Hampshire for just 126. Sussex chased down the total quite comfortably with sixteen balls to spare.
Jofra Archer has bowled well in the tournament so far and it wasn't surprising as he was a mainstay in wrecking Hampshire's batting. He picked four wickets and his accuracy never allowed Hampshire's batsmen to get going in the middle overs. Chris Nash and Ben Brown were brilliant during the chase as they stitched together a 82-run partnership to keep Hampshire at bay. Settled display from Taylor and Laurie Evans ensured their way towards victory.
Despite a balanced side, it was surprising that Sussex failed to register a win until their last game. A win would certainly have induced a lot of confidence which will definitely make the things little easier against Kent.
Kent continued to languish at the bottom of the table as Middlesex thrashed them in their previous match. The decision after winning the toss and electing to bowl did not go right as Brendon McCullum and David Malan wrecked havoc on their bowlers. The bowlers gave away 179 runs in total.
Chasing a tall total, things did not go as well as they wanted it to be. Kent lost both their openers in the space of first seven balls of the innings. As the innings looked to gather some momentum, the loss of key wicket of Sam Billings in fifth over set them back. Although Sam Northeast and Jimmy Neesham stitched together a wonderful 75 runs partnership against all odds, it just didn't prove enough. Alex Blake's quick-fire 27 during the back-end of the innings lighted a ray of hope, but it proved to be too little too late.
In the competition so far, Kent have lost a couple of games which they could've won but lost. With two wins in five games, Kent haven't lost the plot just yet. A win from here would take them to the fifth spot and they've certainly strive hard for that.
It is an important game for both the teams with both of them tying to rise up the ranks. Kent has done better than Sussex so far and with T20 experts like Billings, Northeast, and Neesham in their team, they look favorites to win this match.
