SYD vs ADS Match Prediction - Jan 17, 2023

The Sixers are inching closer to the top of the ladder after a convincing win over the Scorchers. Sydney has 15 points and three big wins in a row, while the Strikers have been up and down lately with 10 points and two straight losses. Adelaide is still fourth on the ladder above Hobart.

SYD vs ADS Team Previews

Sydney Sixers

Although it was only a victory against Perth by six runs, a win’s still a win for the Sixers, who displayed to the rest of the league that a new contender is in town.

It wasn’t even really a high-scoring game, as a total of 5/151 with Josh Philippe being the top scorer with 54 runs isn’t what you’d call a wild match by any means. Steve Smith’s 36 runs were certainly helpful, but not show-stopping. The team’s top scorer, Jordan Silk (273 for the season) was also decent with 17*.

It was more the Sixers’ bowlers who did the hard work, with Abbott taking 3/18 (19 total wickets) while Kerr and Christian both took two wickets each. Three of the top Scorchers’ batsmen – Hardie, Inglis, and Bancroft – were dismissed for a measly total of 13 runs!

Adelaide Strikers

The Strikers finally have to deal with the news that star batter, Chris Lynn, has left the side for another league and won’t be able to help for the playoffs. Lynn was incredible for the Strikers and scored 416 runs, which is the most in the BBL this season.

Still, Matt Short has been fantastic for Adelaide and will likely continue to lead the team in runs, especially if he keeps hitting the boundaries with 39 fours and 16 sixes. Adam Hose can also contribute well as a batter, and even though he’s only made one half-century this season, he’s totalled 270 runs and been reliable.

We’re sure that Alex Carey and Travis Head will help more in further games, as they’ve only had one match in the BBL so far and managed a combined three runs… but that’s in the past.

The team is still looking to Henry Thornton to pick up wickets (16 so far), but they should have trust in Wes Agar as well, as he’s got 15 total wickets thanks to his recent performance of 2/27.

SYD vs ADS Toss Prediction

Any team winning the toss should look to bat first and try to make a total of around 170 runs, as this has usually resulted in an easy win.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch tends to be more beneficial for batters earlier on in the contest, as the team batting first has statistically won most matches.

SYD vs ADS Betting Tips

The Sixers are 11-7 against the Strikers, which isn’t a huge margin but it’s still a good thing to have in the back pocket. Sydney is looking better and better, especially with help from Smith and Lyon. However, it will still be up to Philippe, Silk, and Abbott to secure wins.

We’re not sure about the Strikers just yet, as Head and Carey still need to prove themselves and losing Lynn will be a hard adjustment. The odds say Sydney is the favourite, so the odds aren’t quite as good, but it still feels like a much more secure bet than on Adelaide.

Bet on Sydney to win.
