SYD vs BH Match Prediction - Jan 04, 2023

The Sydney Sixers will be looking to reclaim the number 2 spot on the points table as it hosts Brisbane Heat on Wednesday for match number 28 in the ongoing Big Bash League.

The Sixers’ 4-match winning streak was halted by the Heat when they faced each other on New Year’s Day. As a result, the odds for a Sixers’ win have lengthened a bit this time around and punters will likely get a better return for their wagers.

Sydney Sixers

After facing consecutive defeats at the start of the season, the Sixers came back strongly to win 4 matches on the trot, powered by some excellent batting at the top of the order.

Josh Philippe and James Vince have been pretty consistent with their batting, while Jordan Silk too is in great touch, and is the leading scorer for his team this season. In the last match, the Sixers set out to chase a mammoth target of 225 set by Brisbane. Philippe and Vince once again provided the team with a solid start, putting up 56 runs for the first wicket in just 4.3 overs.

Daniel Christian, Moises Henriques, and Daniel Christian departed quickly but Jordan Silk and Hayden Kerr kept the Sixers in pursuit, adding 54 runs in 26 deliveries before Kerr was stumped out. Silk was in no mood to relent as he scored 41 of 23 deliveries, but Michael Neser took a controversial catch at the boundary to dismiss him in the 19th over, extinguishing all hopes for the Sixers.

Talking about the bowling, Hayden Kerr and Sean Abbott took a wicket each, and have 10 wickets against their name for the tournament. However, both of them, plus the other bowlers, have been quite expensive this season and that is one area where the team needs to improve.

Brisbane Heat

The Brisbane Heat was off to a dreadful start to the season as they managed to win just 1 of their first 5 matches. However, they came back in style in the last match, defeating the Sixers in a run fest.

Batting first, Brisbane lost their leading run-scorer for the season, Colin Munro, with just 12 on the board. However, his opening partner, Josh Brown, went berserk and scored 62 of just 23 deliveries. Brown brought up his half-century in just 19 deliveries, which is the fifth fastest in BBL history.

Once he departed, McSweeney, playing his first match of the season, continued with the momentum and scored 84 of 51 deliveries to guide the Brisbane Heat to a total of 224. Later on, in the second innings, the Brisbane bowlers continued to pick up regular intervals to ensure that despite reaching tantalizingly close to the target, the Sixers couldn’t cross the line.

While Brisbane has a couple of good batsmen like Colin Munro and Sam Billings, as well as a quality seamer in the form of Michael Neser, they have failed to perform as a unit. With the change in momentum, the team will be hoping to keep winning the upcoming matches as well.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the North Sydney Oval is pretty flat and a great surface to bat on. The average first innings score here is around 165. The seamers are likely to get some help here due to the good and consistent bounce. There is a high probability of rain in Sydney on Wednesday which might lead to some delays.

The average temperature will range from 17-23 degrees Celsius.

SYD vs BH Betting Tips

While everything seemed to be sailing smoothly for the Sixers till the last match, they received a rude wake-up call from an unexpected quarter. The Brisbane Heat looked like a battered lot but the last win will go a long way in restoring the team’s confidence.

However, we feel that the home team is quite resilient and will shrug off this loss as a freak event and take on the field with a positive frame of mind.

Bet on the Sydney Sixers to win.

In 3 of the last 5 matches, including the last match, the opening pair for the Sydney Sixers have put up a partnership of over 23. The pitch at Sydney is good to bat on and with Josh Phillips and James Vince both in good form, we would like to suggest an `Over´ bet here.
