SYD vs HBH Match Prediction - Jan 24, 2021

Just when things were looking smooth and simple and Big Bash League, the points table has once again opened up. A win for Scorchers over Stars has rendered the table wide open with as many as five teams still fighting for the two remaining spots. Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers are the only two teams that have qualified thus far, but they too would want to keep winning so that they do not lose the momentum.

Up next in the competition are Sydney Sixers set to take on Hobart Hurricanes in an all-important match for the Hurricanes. Even though the Hurricanes are near the bottom half, they are very much in contention to qualify for the playoffs. The match between these two sides to be played at the iconic venue of Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne, on Sunday, 24th January 2021.

Sydney Sixers

Just a couple of days ago, Sydney Sixers suffered an unanticipated loss at the hands of Sydney Thunder and the recent win for Perth Scorchers has put the Sixers' chances of a top-two finish in jeopardy. Even though they do not need to win this match to progress to the next round as they are already there, they'll still be desperate to win.

At the start of the tournament, no many would have imagined the Sixers to finish as the table-toppers and whatever the Sixers have done up until now is commendable. As it stands, the Sixers are still at the top of the points table, tied with Perth Scorchers, with both sides having 32 points each.

Unlike what most of their fans expected, Sydney Sixers decided against playing Shaun Abbott and that move backfired big time for the Sixers. Almost all of their bowlers looked fatigued as they together conceded a colossal total. Abbott has been sitting on the sidelines for a long time now and he will be fresh and raring to go.

Sixers' other experienced campaigner in Moises Henriques had a decent outing in the last match as he scored a fluent fifty in an unsuccessful run chase. His innings has certainly inspired confidence in the batting lineup that was already doing pretty well.

On paper, there are hardly many teams that match Sydney Sixers as far as the balance is concerned. They have an excellent amalgamation of youth and experience and that could be a blessing to have in the shortest format of the game. We expect them to give a couple of their bowlers a bit of rest and that is where the Hurricanes might stand a chance. Apart from that, the Sixers are an incredibly balanced unit and will be difficult to deal with in the upcoming encounter.

Hobart Hurricanes

Hobart Hurricanes started off pretty well in the tournament, but terrible performances in the recent matches have pushed them to the seventh position. It's not that the Hurricanes are out of contention, but scoring a win here in this match is imperative for the Hurricanes to stay alive. Thanks to their inconsistent batting, the Hurricanes have lost four of their last five matches and are looking stalled at the moment.

While they have plenty of firepower available at the top, most of their batsmen are openers by nature. With Matthew Wade returning to the fold, the Hurricanes will need to disturb the opening combination of Ben McDermott and D'Arcy Short. McDermott has done a terrific job so far and it wouldn't be wise to drop him down the order. Considering how well the pair of Wade and Short has done over the years for Hurricanes, not going with that opening pair doesn't make any sense either. Besides those, the Hurricanes have David, Malan, and Handscomb available to bat in the top-four as well.

Hurricanes haven't tasted much success in their recent matches, but discarding them now certainly won't be the right choice. They have a batting lineup full of world-class T20 players, who all can wreck any bowling attack on their day. It will all depend on how the Hurricanes bat and if they do play to their potential, the Sixers are going to have a hard time in the middle.

SYD vs HBH Betting Tips

Going by the recent results and the combination of the two sides, there's no doubt that the Sixers are ahead. Having said that, the Hurricanes have plenty of match-winners who all can win their team the match singlehandedly. Hurricanes will be pretty confident with Wade returning to the fold. Besides, their top-four is as good as any and one good innings from any of those is all that Hurricanes will need to trump the favorites here. We are getting excellent returns on a Hurricanes' win here. Considering that and the batting lineup that the men in purple have, betting on a Hurricanes' win should be the way to go here.
