The Sydney Sixers are going to open their account in Big Bash 2019-20 against the Perth Scorchers. Both of these two teams have had a lot of success in previous seasons of the BBL but it is time for them to start looking at a new start.

There are some young faces in the Sydney Sixers that have some reputations to live up to while the Perth Scorchers are moving on from some of their biggest names of the past. This first match between the two teams will give us a good idea of how we can expect their season to go.

SYD vs PER Team Previews

Sydney Sixers

The Sydney Sixers have a solid core of players, most of whom have remained the same from last season. There are a number of youngsters in the squad that are considered to be among the next generation of potential Australian internationals and that makes the side very exciting to watch.

The Sydney Sixers have also kept faith with James Vince and Tom Curran as their overseas players for this season as well. Both of them performed very well for the Sydney Sixers in the previous season and have been in good form over at the Mzansi Super League as well.

Jack Edwards, Jordan Silk, and Daniel Hughes are going to be a part of the batting lineup while Josh Phillipe and Moises Henriques are the all-rounders. Josh Phillipe was very impressive and destructive at the top of the order in the final few matches of the previous BBL season and could get a chance to open the batting once more.

Sean Abbott, Ben Dwarshius, Lloyd Pope, and perhaps Jackson Bird can be expected to feature in the playing eleven as the bowling attack to take on the Perth Scorchers.

The Sydney Sixers have a dangerous squad for sure and we think their two overseas picks are very handy. The side is going to be very confident starting in home conditions.

Perth Scorchers

The Perth Scorchers have made some big changes to their squad and we think they have come out ahead after all the dust has settled. The addition of Liam Livingstone, Fawad Ahmed, and Chris Jordan to the side makes the Scorchers much stronger.

This is also a younger side that seems to have more T20 know-how than the side that was beginning to stagnate last season.

The Perth Scorchers have a very decent batting that is going to be led by Cameron Bancroft, Liam Livingstone, Ashton Turner, and Mitchell Marsh. While the Aussie public is familiar with the six-hitting heroics of Ashton Turner and Mitchell Marsh, Liam Livingstone maybe the player that kicks things off in this match.

Ashton Agar and Chris Jordan will provide the all-round batting capability down the order.

The Perth Scorchers were always a bowling-heavy team but this time their batting looks quite formidable as well.

Among the bowlers, Jhye Richardson, Fawad Ahmed, and Ashton Agar are fantastic T20 bowlers. Richardson is going to bring the heat, Fawad Ahmed is attacking while being frugal, and Ashton Agar can squeeze the batsmen for runs as well.

Chris Jordan is the bowler who is expected to bowl predominantly in the death overs and stop the late charge from the opposition.

The Perth Scorchers have most bases covered and are going to be hard to stop.

Pitch and Conditions

The weather in Sydney is pretty good for cricket. There are a few clouds around that are going to make the bowlers happy but no serious threat of rain is predicted. The pitch at the SCG is a bit slower than at other places. It will take some spin and keep the slower ballers in play but batting is not going to be too difficult wither.

A score of around 170 should be seen as par.
