The Sydney Sixers are going to start their BBL campaign against the Perth Scorchers. The Sydney Sixers finished fifth last season and performed a little above expectations. This time they have reinforced their squad and would be hoping to once again be a part of the knockouts when the Big Bash League comes to an end.
The Perth Scorchers are the most successful team in BBL history. They have, in fact, been rated as one of the most successful sides in the world when it comes to T20 cricket. The expectations are always high when it comes to the Perth Scorchers. This is why it was a bit of shock when the Scorchers started with a loss against the Melbourne Renegades.
Which side will be able to make the best start to BBL 08?
The Sydney Sixers have been able to be in the running for the knockouts spots thanks to a stellar bowling attack. The side has some excellent spinners led by Nathan Lyon, Steve O'Keeffe, and now Lloyd Pope. Of course, Nathan Lyon is not going to available until the test series against India is going on but the other two spinners are very good as well.
Lloyd Pope has been at the center of a huge media storm by picking up a clutch of wickets in the Sheffield Shield.
With players like Sean Abbott, Ben Dwarshius, and Tom Curran in the side, the Sydney Sixers are boasting of a very strong bowling attack. In fact, with the Perth Scorchers having struggled with the bat in the first match, the Sydney Sixers would be backing themselves to roll over the Scorchers for not too many in this match as well.
The Sydney Sixers batting is going to be a big issue in this match. They have signed Joe Denly for the entire season in BBL 08. He was very successful for them over a short period of time but this extended run is going to be interesting to watch. We think signing Denly is one of the smarter moves that the Sydney Sixers have made. He is a quality all-rounder who will contribute with the bat and ball in every single match.
Moises Henriques is going to play a huge role for the Sydney Sixers in this season as well. He was their highest scorers two BBL seasons ago but did not play of a role last year due to health issues. If he is back to his best then Henriques is a real force to be reckoned with.
The Sydney Sixers begin their campaign against a tough opponent but with plenty of promise for the season that lies ahead.
Joe Denly, Jack Edwards, Moises Henriques, Jordan Silk, Josh Philippe, Tom Curran, Daniel Hughes, Sean Abbott, Steve O'Keefe, B Dwarshuis, Lloyd Pope.
The Perth Scorchers would be very disappointed to lose to the Melbourne Renegades in their first match of BBL 08. They were pretty much at full strength and were taking on a Renegades side that was missing its best batsmen.
The inability of the batsmen to put up a good total came to the fore as the Renegades bowled them over for just 103.
The Scorchers, to their credit, put u[p a brave bowling performance in which they kept on coming hard at the Renegades. AT one stage, it looked like the Perth Scorchers were on the verge of a famous victory but the small target allowed the Renegades to romp home on the back of a few cameos.
With the likes of Klinger, Whiteman, Mitchell Marsh, Ashton Turner, Hilton Cartwright, and some very capable all-rounders in the side, this kind of batting total is just not acceptable. We expect the Perth Scorchers to fight back hard after this initial setback and for Ashton Turner to lead the way with the bat.
There is no doubting the bowling talent of the Perth Scorchers, though. Pretty much one of the best bowling attacks in the tournament, the Perth Scorchers have an abundance of bowling talent at their disposal.
Behrendorff, Coulter-Nile, Agar, Tye, and Willey are all international bowlers with plenty of experience. They also have Usman Qadir to help provide a wrist spinning option. The first match of BBL 08 may not have gone their way but the Perth Scorchers remain a side to be feared in this competition.
SM Whiteman, M Klinger, David Willey, AJ Turner, Hilton Cartwright, Nathan Coulter-Nile, AJ Tye, William Bosisto, Ashton Agar, Jhye Richardson, Jason Behrendorff.

The BBL match between the Sydney Sixers and the Perth Scorchers is going to be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney. The weather in Sydney has been a bit of a concern with some thunderstorms hitting the area. Hopefully, though, the weather should clear on the day of the match to allow for a full match to be played out.
The Perth Scorchers may have lost their first match but they are not a team to be taken lightly. They have one of the best bowling units in the BBL and their batting is pretty strong either. We think they will come back strongly in this match.
Back the Perth Scorchers to win.
