About the Match
The BBL 2014-15 title clash is set between Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers on 28th Jan at Canberra and the crowds will be anticipating a full-on entertainer here. Both teams won emphatically against their opponents to sail through to the finals and they will be eager to dominate right from the first ball. Having won 6 matches consecutively, the Sixers are a formidable force to reckon with but the Scorchers can be ruthless when it comes to executing their strategy to move towards victory.
Perth Scorchers won the semi-final match against Melbourne Stars by 18 runs after setting a target of 145 for the opponents; Michael Carberry and Shaun Marsh gave a strong foundation by posting a 68-run partnership. They scored 50 and 35 runs respectively and Nile contributed with an all-round effort of scoring 22 off 9 balls and also took 2 wickets in the 2nd half. Andrew Tye registered a wonderful figure of 4-18 from 4 overs to demolish the Stars while Arafat and Behrendorff took 3 wickets between them to control the game. Overall the Scorchers have been one of the most consistent teams this season and they have brilliant players like Michael Klinger and Shaun Marsh, who are the big guns in the team’s batting arsenal while Carberry has scored in excess of 200 runs. On the bowling front, Yasir Arafat and Andrew Tye are in tremendous form while Jason Behrendorff, Nile and Agar have made good impact through the competition. Perth Scorchers have always performed well under pressure and we are likely to see a fierce contest here for the title.
Setting up 182 runs as target against Adelaide Strikers in the semi-finals, the batsmen yet again proved their strength when it comes to delivering the goods with the bat. With Maddinson’s perfectly paced 85 from 48 balls and Lumb’s unbeaten 32 off 19 balls, the team rocketed to 4-181 consigning the Strikers to their highest chase of the season. Doug Bollinger weighed in with 3 wickets to continue on his good spell, Abbott, Keefe and Lyon took 2 wickets each to demolish Stars to 94 all-out and register a massive win by 87 runs. The key players Michael Lumb and Nic Maddinson have been consistent with the starts but neither have been really able to convert them into big scores; Wessels, Maddinson, Henriques & Silk at the end are strong assets when it comes batting under pressure. The bowlers are in very good form and could really help their team to restrict the opposition; overall, the team surely packs a punch when it comes to overcoming challenges and winning matches.
It has been an action-filled competition with both teams doing extremely well to get to the finals; while the Sydney Sixers are a determined side, who have a well-balanced team of bowlers and batsmen, Scorchers have emerged as a strong unit that doesn’t leave any stone unturned to win matches. Although the result could go either way, we feel that Sydney Sixers are more likely to win the coveted title.
