The Sydney Sixers and the Adelaide Strikers are going to be playing against each other on two consecutive days. This is the second of those matches and we don’t have the result of the previous match just yet. While the result of the first match will give us a good indication of the kind of surface that the two teams are playing on, the inherent strengths and weaknesses of the two sides remain the same.
Also, another thing that is not going to change is the fact that the Sydney Sixers need to win both of these matches and preferably by a large margin otherwise they risk being pipped at the post by the Melbourne Renegades women.
Sydney Sixers Women vs Adelaide Strikers Women WBBL 05 is going to be played at Hurstville Oval, Sydney on the 1st of December 2019.
The Sydney Sixers are crippled without their best player for the remainder of WBBL 05 but this only makes the competition a bit fairer. The Sixers are still a formidable side with the likes of Alyssa Healy, Erin Burns, Ashleigh Gardner, and Marizanne Kapp in their side.
The trick for the Sixers is going to find the mental strength to emerge from the poor run of form they have been and actually perform to their abilities in the middle. Being pushed into a corner and not having any option but to win could play a massive role in helping the Sixers play with a clear state of mind.
We would love to Healy at her aggressive self and taking on the bowling from the very first ball. She has the talent to destroy any bowling attack when she is at her best. The fact that she has been a bit below her usual level of excellence is clear for anyone to see but we are not going to be counting out a champion better just yet.
Erin Burns and Ashleigh Gardner are also very talented batters with international experience to call upon. This is as good a chance as any for them to confirm their berths for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
The bowling for the Sixers has to be better than it has been in the recent games. Marizanne Kapp, Dane Van Niekerk, and Ashleigh Gardner have to find a way to keep the run-scoring in check. Teams no longer have the in-built pressure of scoring a mountain of runs against the Sixers and so picking up wickets is a bit tougher.
Alyssa Healy, Erin Burns, Ashleigh Gardner, Hollie Armitage, Marizanne Kapp, Dane van Niekerk, Lauren Smith, Jodie Hicks, Sarah Aley, Hayley Silver-Holmes, Stella Campbell.
This match holds no real relevance for the Adelaide Strikers. They have already qualified for the WBBL 05 semi-final and are only just rounding out the final bits of their plans ahead of the knockouts. Keeping Sophie Devine healthy and in her best form is going to be a prime concern for the Adelaide Strikers.
The Kiwi international is fighting for the top spot in the run-scorers list and is also among the highest wicket-takers of the WBBL. A tournament like this is very rare for any player and Devine would love for it culminate in a title win.
The Adelaide Strikers women will know that not having the Sydney Sixers in the semi-final lineup is a boost to their own chances. This is why we are sure they are going to do everything in their power to knock them out.
It is also a good opportunity for Suzie Bates, Lauren Winfield, and Tahlia McGrath to play with the utmost freedom and get in a strong mindset before the really important games start.
The Adelaide Strikers bowling attack is unbelievably good. Sophie Devine is joined by Megan Schutt, Sarah Coyte, Amanda Wellington, and Tahlia McGrath in the bowing unit. There is enough international experience and variety here to combat any situation they might come up against.
Suzie Bates, Sophie Devine, T McGrath, B Patterson, Lauren Winfield, Katie Mack, T McPharlin, Annie O'Neil, Amanda Wellington, S Coyte, Megan Schutt.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first

The weather forecast for this match is much better than it was for the first of these encounters. We should not have worries about the rain and be able to enjoy a full-uninterrupted match. The pitch at Hurstville is a bit slow and makes run-scoring difficult.
This is not the liking of either team. We think batting first and getting to a total of about 130 is going to be the idea here.
We think the Sydney Sixers are the team to back in this match. The champion players rise up when the going gets tough and their backs are to the wall. The Sydney Sixers batters will have to compensate for the bowlers but we think they are capable of doing that.
Bet on the Sydney Sixers to win.
