The Strikers are in the WBBL Final after they defeated the Heat in an incredibly close game with only two balls remaining. This is the second year in a row that Adelaide has reached the Final, as they lost to the Scorchers in last year’s game.
The Strikers will face the Sixers for the Championship match in what’s bound to be a tantalising final with star-studded moments. The Sixers are certainly well rested, as they’ve been relaxing since they finished at the top of the league.

Is there any reason to doubt the Sydney Sixers right now? The team that went 11-2 for the season is in fine form and has everything going for it. Still, one of the losses was to the Strikers on October 21, so that’s got to be in minds of the Sixers’ players before the Final begins.
There’s no denying that the Sixers easily have the best batting lineup in the WBBL, as the team finished with three players in the top eight run-scorers, including Elysse Perry (357), Ashleigh Gardner (339), and Alyssa Healy (329). Perry and Gardner are perhaps the most reliable of the three, as despite Healy hitting the first (and only) century of the season, she has also posted many scores below 10 runs.
To make matters more terrifying for any team fighting the Sixers, there are also Erin Burns and Suzie Bates, who could be the top two batters on any other squad.
The bowling is perhaps not as strong as the Sixers’ batting, yet it’s still extremely lethal. The job of containing the Strikers will be up to Kate Peterson and allrounder Gardner, and these two are certainly up to the task. Peterson has been on fire lately, picking up 10/75 in her last three games, while Gardner is dependable for at least one or two wickets per game. Gardner has 23 wickets for the season and has just been bowling incredibly well all year.

Adelaide Strikers Women
Do the Strikers have enough firepower to beat the Sixers? It’s close, but just not enough this season. In any other year, the Strikers would be the champions, but it won’t be enough to topple this fantastic Sydney team.
Still, Adelaide will put up a good fight thanks to batting from Laura Wolvaardt (75* and 47 in her last two games) and Deandra Dottin. Both of these women have been putting up amazing scores lately and they are the two to trust to keep things close. It’s the rest of the squad that we’re unsure of.
Katie Mack has been pretty poor recently, scoring just 40 runs over three matches and being generally unreliable at the crease. Captain McGrath did hit 93* against the Hurricanes, but that was an outlier, as the rest of her scores are littered with ducks and ones.
Bridget Patterson was astounding by scoring 45 runs from 26 balls against the Heat, but again, we feel this was more due to a must-win situation rather than trustworthy batting.
The Sixers will certainly have to look out for Megan Schutt, who is turning into one of the best bowlers in the league. She’s been astonishingly good of late, picking up 12/83 in her last three games. If the Sixers want to win, they’ll need to survive Schutt’s four overs because she’s too talented to overlook.

The Karen Rolton Oval has a great pitch for batting and we’re bound to see high scores here. It’s often balanced so it’s not unusual for pacers to pick up several wickets.

It’s going to be quite the match-up and certainly high scoring, but the Sixers are the best team for a reason: Star players and consistency throughout their bowling, batting, and fielding. The time off will help and they’re going to be ready to destroy the Strikers.
Sydney has a 12-5 record over Adelaide, and although the Strikers did win the last meeting between these two teams, it will only make the Sixers more prepared for the Final.
The sheer amount of great batters like Gardner and Perry, as well as crafty bowlers like Peterson, means that the Sixers are well-equipped to deal with anything the Strikers throw at them. Although the odds are good for Adelaide, we trust Sydney to pick up the victory.
