Women's Big Bash League started off on a rather anti-climatic note as most of the matches on the opening day ended up being one-sided. Sydney Sixers, who had a relatively easy game at their hands, had to settle for just one point as their match against Sydney Thunder was washed out due to rain. The Sixers are still searching for their first match and will take on Adelaide Strikers in the upcoming WBBL match, which is to be played on 26th October 2020 at North Sydney Oval, Sydney.
Sydney Sixers will be pretty disappointed as rain snatched away the possibility of them having two important points on the board. Not only that, the Sixers will not have to face against a team that already has some momentum behind them whereas the Sixers themselves have most of the players who are taking the field after a long time.
There's hardly any batting lineup in the competition that matches that of the Sixers in completeness. They have an excellent amalgamation of experience and explosiveness with class oozing right through. Ellyse Perry and Alyssa Healy are arguably the two best opening players in the tournament and having them both at the disposal is certainly a massive advantage for the Sixers. While most other teams have a hollow middle-order, its not the case with the Sixers. With the likes of Ashleigh Gardner, Erin Burns, Dane van Niekerk, and Marizanne Kapp present, they have tremendous depth available.
While the lack of someone experienced in their specialist bowlers, the presence of Elysse Perry, Marizanne Kapp, and Dane van Niekerk ensures that they have a dynamic bowling unit, which has variety and experience. Hayley Silver Holmes, Stella Campbell, and Lauren Cheatle have impressed in their limited number of outings and they'd want to extend their impressive run in this tournament as well.
All in all, Sydney Sixers is one of the best-balanced teams of the tournament and that is largely because of the stable core they have kept over the years. It's not surprising that they have emerged as title winners on two out of five occasions and if they play to their potential, we may see them winning the title again. Following a no-result, Sydney Sixers will be itching to get a win under their belt and will be a tough team to deal with in the upcoming encounter.
Alyssa Healy, Ashleigh Gardner, Erin Burns, Angela Reakes, Jodie Hicks, Ellyse Perry, Dane van Niekerk, Marizanne Kapp, Hayley Silver-Holmes, Lisa Griffith, Stella Campbell.
Adelaide Strikers had a terrific run last year but failed to seal the deal in the last match as they finished as runners-up in the 2019 edition of the Women's Big Bash League. With a win over Hobart Hurricanes, Adelaide Strikers are coming off a massive win in their first match and will be looking to run with the momentum.
There were several questions over the Strikers' batting unit with Sophie Devine leaving them to join Scorchers and all those questions seemed to be non-issues primarily because of a stupendous effort by the Strikers' bowlers. Tahlia McGrath and Laura Wolvaardt were brilliant at the top as Strikers chased a total of 85 without any fuss. While McGrath couldn't do much damage, her partnership with Wolvaardt proved to be of significant importance. Wolvaardt ended up unbeaten on 51 as Strikers closed the game with six overs to spare and eight wickets in hand.
While their batting did an excellent job to chase that total down, it was the Strikers' bowling that won them the game. Megan Schutt and Darcie Brown were severe from the very beginning and bowled in tight channels with high accuracy. They picked up five wickets between them in total as Hurricanes found themselves tottering. Amanda Jade Wellington sealed the deal for the Strikers, picking up three wickets at the back-end of the innings and leaving her team with a relatively modest total to chase down.
On paper, the Strikers have a terrific top-order, but they lack similar strength in their lower middle-order. It could be a cause of concern against a potent team like Sydney Sixers, but if Strikers' bowlers manage to put up a similar performance, there is no reason why the Strikers cannot repeat the excellent show they exhibited against Hobrart Hurricanes.
T McPharlin, B Patterson, Katie Perkins, Laura Wolvaardt, Katie Mack, T McGrath, Megan Schutt, S Coyte, Amanda Wellington, Maddie Penna, Darcie Brown.

These are still early days in the tournament, but points on the board are going to be vital for both sides. Sydney Sixers are a kind of team that likes to play imposing cricket and a washout in their first match would have motivated them to do well in this match. Adelaide Strikers, on the other hand, are coming off a colossal win and will be brimming with confidence. The two teams haven't really played a good number of games in the tournament so comparing them on-performance leaves us with nothing. However, with a strong batting unit and a versatile bowling attack, Sydney Sixers appear to be a better team on paper and are, therefore, our pick to emerge on top in this game on Monday.
