The Sydney Sixers currently sit on second in the WBBL standings and have been one of the dominant sides in this edition of the Women’s Big Bash League. With five wins from seven matches, they find themselves in a great position moving forward.
The opponents in this WBBL match are going to be the Adelaide Strikers. The Strikers have had some very good individual performances but as a team, they have underperformed. They only have two wins from their seven matches, with one match being rained out, and sit in the bottom three of the standings right now.
The stats might suggest a one-sided contest on the cards but the WBBL teams are a lot closer than most people realize. All it takes is one good individual performance to change the tide of the match.
The Sydney Sixers suffered one of their worst losses in WBBL history in their last match. They were chasing a decent total of 155 against the Brisbane Heat but ended losing their top-order for next to nothing.
This is the question that has been on everyone’s minds. What happens when Alyssa Healy and Ellyse Perry get out without contributing too much to the cause? Some excellent batters still follow for the Sydney Sixers, such as Gardner, Burns, McGlashan, and Niekerk. Even Kapp is an international player of repute and is more than handy with the bat.
This is why it would be disappointing that the entire Sydney Sixers lineup managed just 88 runs.
The Sixers have been riding on an unbelievable run of form from Ellyse Perry and to some extent Alyssa Healy. Both these players had been playing with the freedom that there were plenty of batters to follow if they did get out early but will they be able to do that now?
We also think that the Sydney Sixers bowling has been strictly average this season. Kapp, Perry, Niekerk, Burns, Gardner, and Cheatle have not set the WBBL alive with their performances. Some poor performances from the bowlers have also allowed the opposing teams to get to some good totals.
The Sydney Sixers will continue to remain favorites in most matches they play but the Brisbane heat just showed that they are fallible and the Adelaide Strikers would have taken note of that.
Ellyse Perry, Alyssa Healy, Ashleigh Gardner, Erin Burns, Sara McGlashan, Dane van Niekerk, Marizanne Kapp, Lauren Smith, Tahlia Wilson, Hayley Silver-Holmes, Lauren Cheatle.
A brilliant all-round performance from Sophie Devine set the stage for the Adelaide Strikers victory against the Melbourne Stars. She first scored 95 to lead the Strikers to 172 and then took five wickets in the defense of that total.
It was an unprecedented all-round performance and blew away the Melbourne Stars who had been impressive up until that point of time. Like we said earlier in the article, a performance like Sophie Devine’s can win the match with ease in the WBBL although be, to be honest, this performance would have won a match in any league around the world.
The Adelaide Strikers will be hoping that Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates can continue their impressive form this season. Both the New Zealand international players will have to be at their best while taking on a strong Sydney Sixers lineup.
Patterson also scored 51 in the last match to help raise hopes about the Adelaide Strikers but we are afraid there is not too much more beyond the top-4.
Early wickets are the key to any game and the Adelaide Strikers cannot afford them. They have to somehow ensure that their best batters bat for the majority of the inning.
Schutt was uncharacteristically expensive in the last match but she still leads the attack. She will want a better performance in this upcoming match and some support from Devine, Hazell, and McGrath who had a good outing in the previous match.

The WBBL match between the Sydney Sixers women and the Adelaide Strikers women is going to be played at the Hurstville Oval, Sydney. The weather conditions in Sydney have improved and we are hopeful of having a full, uninterrupted match play out.
The conditions should be good for batting largely although the pitch is a bit on the slower side.
The Sydney Sixers have won the last five matches against the Adelaide Strikers and will go into this match as firm favorites. They will, however, be playing back to back games in less than 24 hours and that could take a physical toll.
Taking the form of Devine into consideration, we recommend punting on the upset here.
Back the Adelaide Strikers to win.
